I bought this LP new in May 1968.
Cover - Shrink on, pulling away from open end. No writing, no cover splits. EJ Korvette circle pricing stamp on shrink, back cover, top right. I think an E is in the circle. 4 in white square, bottom right, back cover. The 4 is the indicator for who printed the cover. Open end corner bumps but little other shelving/handling evidence.
Vinyl - Some rubs. 2-eye Columbia red labels. 360 SOUND STEREO at label bottom arcs.
Sleeve - Clear plastic.
Deadwax:
Side 1: T l XSM-119703-1A 0 B X l l
. . .
Side 2: T l 0 XSM-119704-1A C 5
Pressing Rings 69mm
Vinyl weight 5oz, 143g
The T’s are upside down as to the rest of the etchings.
The 3 dots under the l l on Side 1 are faint but appear intentional.
T - Columbia Terre Haute pressing
0 - Customatrix - metalwork
My crossed out X is some obliterated number/letter.
4 on back cover - sleeve printed by Imperial Packing Co. Inc. Indianapolis IN
Several sites have January 1968 as the release month for this album. Several different days in January 1968 claimed on various sites.
Certainly an early pressing. Maybe a first pressing.
Discord during recording resulted in David Crosby leaving the band before they finished recording. So maybe he’s on about half these songs.
The BYRDS are always an enjoyable listen. The beautiful harmonies and melodies sometimes disguise some hard-hitting lyrics. Some early MOOG work is featured. Easy to sing along or just let their sound wash over you.
Higher grade cover and vinyl.
