Super rare late 1950s or early 1960s earliest US issue (with a fantastic exotica cheesecake cover) of these experimental sound sculpture recordings, made entirely of the sounds of the legendary Structures Sonores built by brothers Bernard and Francois Baschet out of metal and glass. Wonderfully surreal tones, clangs, and clashes emanate from these unique bowed and struck instruments which permit players "to create, to moderate and to irradiate into the atmosphere 'internal sounds' of metals... These new instruments should produce a new music more adapted to our civilization. It is at least controversial to assume that one should continue in the 20th century to compose music with 18th century instruments..."

The Baschet Structures Sonores have been used in compositions by Andres Lewin-Richter, Ravi Shankar, Toru Takemitsu, Michel Deneuve, Sigfried Fink, Jacques Doyen, Sarah Gorby, and Jacques, Yvonne, and Teddy Lasry of Magma; they compare to the sound sculpture and homemade instrument work of Paul Panhuysen, Bill Fontana, Harry Bertoia, Sonambient, Max Neuhaus, Harry Partch, Z'ev, Donald Knaack, Alvin Lucier, Mario Bertoncini, Alvin Lucier, Bruce Nauman, Robert Rutman, Skip LaPlante, Jean Tinguely, Michael Brewster, etc. Check out my other auctions for more avant garde, experimental, electronic/electroacoustic, psych, free jazz, and 20th century classical lps. Packing - I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers from Cameron Packaging (which I have determined are the best and most protective) reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings.
