Led Zeppelin, Houses of the Holy, LP 1st press, Robert Ludwig mastering
First pressing LP (no barcode) in stunning NM- condition. The gatefold shows only the tiniest amount of wear and the inner sleeve is pristine white with no wear. The only defect is sunning on the spine, a ding to the gatefold in the upper left hand corner that slightly affects the sleeve and a hint of edgewear on the bottom near the spine. These are evident in the photographs.
Vinyl -- in original sleeve -- boasts original shine, gloss and luster. It looks as if it was rarely played. I can see just a faint few light and completely superficial surface marks that I mention for honesty's sake alone. I'll easily grade at NM-.
Original 1st press: 1841 Broadway address. RL intitals are on both sides.

Robert Ludwig mastered pressing from Sterling disk of NYC indicated by the "RL" initials next to the STERLING stamped in the deadwax. For those in the know, Bob Ludwig is one of the two or three best mastering engineers in the world. His talent for revealing clarity, spaciousness and life-like dynamics from the master tapes that translates to outstanding vinyl resolution is legendary! Ludwig mastered pressings of this album are considerable scarcer than later issues. Here are details from his site:
Grammy winning mastering engineer Bob Ludwig graduated from the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in music education and a Master of Music degree in performance (trumpet) and music literature. In May of 2006, Bob was honored by the University of Southern Maine with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree.
He moved to Sterling Sound, Inc. shortly after it's incorporation in 1969 and became Vice-President. Sterling was the first mastering facility in the Western Hemisphere to use the new solid state Neumann mastering electronics with Telefunken M-10A and Studer tape machines. Sterling was the first to use VMS-70 lathes and then the powerful SAL-74 cutting electronics with the SX-74 cutterhead. Sterling was also the first American facility to use the Tracing Simulator developed by Horst Redlich (AES Fellowship 1966)(AES Silver Metal Award 1977). Bob cut many famous records at Sterling including Led Zeppelin II, Houses of Holy, Jimi Hendrix, most of The Band’s famous albums and many others.
