Description
An original 1971 copy of Zep II on the UK Atlantic label. Matrix A6/B4. Please note labels are consistent with a pressing from Xmas 1971. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day cover with dark-brown colouring - correct for this period. You will also note the Atlantic sticker in the interior mentioning the re-cataloguing of the Zeppelin titles. This occurred at the end of '71 and makes this LP very easy do date. Also included is the original Headhunters inner inner sleeve - correct for this period. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In fantastic condition and has only seen very light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks either side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. This particular example is pretty much off the richter scale for audio quality....It's within the top three copies I've ever auditioned. This copy is preserved to a high level - one that very rarely surfaces.. we could be talking "one in fifty of the nicer copies". Two things have occurred to reach this level..Number 1 - the pressing quality of the batch that this LP originates from was particularly good [end-to-end]. Number 2 - It can only ever have been played very minimally on decent equipment because there's no evidence of use in the audio. When you get a well pressed red&plum copy and couple it with top-level preservation the audio quality just cannot be surpassed. Even in the quiet sections, the slow-builds...just silence. It's so clear you can hear all those vocal-echoes in their entirety. My usual disclaimer - a few crackles in a couple of isolated moments [e.g. in the close-out of 'Thank You'].
Cover (Ex) Zep II covers are a real pain to find well preserved, but this example is a cut above the usual standard that typically surfaces. A beautiful front which has not been abused or seriously affected by ageing. Please note in the white sector you can just make out a couple of foxing marks - it is quite minor. The rear which usually suffers a lot of handling is way way better than you usually find. One or two light nicks and a couple of slight blemishes - in reality very very good. The interior is superb - no issues at all. And then there's that Atlantic sticker over on the right panel. Edge wear is very very light and the openings are still sharp. That spine is looking very very nice. Most suffer compression and heavy wear. But this has a very nice wide and square spine. All text is perfectly legible. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity. You just don't seem to see many examples that even reach this level of preservation...
Inner (Ex+) So crisp and perfect it could have been printed yesterday! [very unusual]..No splits/markings/ageing.
