Description

An original summer 1970 copy of Zep II on UK Red & Plum Atlantic [6 months after 1st release]. Matrix A2/B4 [not sure I've seen this one before]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold printed by E J Day - with <Wide Spine>. We also have a plastic bag warning inner too. <STELLAR PLAYBACK>..waste wax visible side 2<<<
Vinyl (Ex+) A beautiful copy by any standard. Has only seen very slight use - super unusual for this title. Many copies look great - but so so many disappoint in some small way on playback. This copy has clearly only seen slight use. Really good lustre and only a couple of very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. So, just to put this into context - I rarely grade Zep II at a full EX+ for a number reasons. Beautifully quiet intros and inbetweens and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. So, why the fuss? Well, ZepII starts with one of the most frequently played hard rock numbers of all time <WLL> this track almost never surfaces unscathed. I don't care how good a copy looks - this track very very rarely plays properly clean. The problem is usually in that quiet percussive break section. Hardly any copies will play this clean. If you find one that does you will DEFINITELY notice it because you will hear ALL the vocal echoes right down low into the mix. Usually those are lost to light background quickly. BUT folks - it doesn't end there. Whilst many tracks on ZepII are synonymous with full-tilt high volume excess - there are many very delicate lowkey sections. These are usually impaired even on nice looking copies. But on this example - literally they are all perfectly preserved. Intro to Thank You - CLEAN. Bring It Home mouth organ intro - crazy good. Delicate tapping intro to RAMBLE... A-ma-zing. You will get clean presentation into ALL SECTORS. A couple of crackles in a couple of isolated spots per side. I have only witnessed a handful of copies up at this level and they are a revelation. FINAL UPGRADE<< Please note:- Side 1 has been initialled.
Cover (Vg+) Another tricky cover to find in decent condition and this one is fairing better than many. Firstly, it seems to have avoided most of the usually ageing and dirt that usually crops up [just a bit in evidence on spine]. Front and back are clean and flat. The rear is usually found in terrible condition - but this example is better than what typically surfaces [one nick at the opening]. The interior is absolutely spot on. You will find a bit of edge wear - but this is nigh on impossible to avoid on this title. At the bottom of the opening it is just starting to wear through. I have done an internal tape repair to avoid it deteriorating. Very nice sharp firm openings. The spine is above average - with text all legible. Expect a bit of wear in a couple of isolated spots. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg) Ageing present. Bag present. No splits.
