Description

Led Zeppelin - II

I am pleased to offer for sale this truly exceptional copy of Led Zeppelin's second studio album, Led Zeppelin II.

The album has the signatures of a true first release: "Livin' Lovin' Wreck" song titled for S2T2, light brown sleeve with green spine and A2/B2 matrix numbers.

The album is found in superb EX+ condition and would constitute a true final upgrade copy if added to any serious record collection. Please see below for more details and the opportunity to listen to the complete audio.

Album Details:

Serial number: 588198

Matrix number: A ▽ 2 / B  2

Stamper codes: 114 / 118

Vinyl Weight: 160g

The A//2 / B//2 matrix numbers confirm that the vinyl is a true UK first pressing. The mother stampers, 115 / 115, communicate that this record was produced very early on in the production cycle. Consequently, the audio reproduction is superb! Take a listen yourself below.

This labels are the first variant identified by the title of track Side 2 Track 2, 'Living Lovin' Wreck', which was changed to 'Livin' Lovin' Maid' on all subsequent variants.

The vinyl is housed within the extremely controversial first variant gatefold sleeve which is light brown in colour and features a green square spine. On many forums you will see people claim that this is due to sun damage or general fading. I was unsure myself until I saw this copy which definitively confirms that the earliest records were sold with such sleeves.

Completing the album is the original polythene-lined 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' die-cut inner sleeve.

Condition:
The condition report provided below is given as a guide only. I include high-quality, comprehensive photographs as well as a complete audio recording in my listings to enable you to make an informed decision on the condition of this record yourself.
Vinyl: EXCELLENT +
Labels: EXCELLENT +
The labels are bright, clean and without writing. Only minor spindle wear is visible.
Visual: EXCELLENT
The record displays superb deep-gloss playing surfaces. In bright daylight several extremely light paper scuffs are visible. Under the haze of a halogen bulb wispy hairline marks can be seen alongside an iridescent rainbow sheen. A really strong example.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +

Please note: the eBay app does not facilitate playback. Please use the internet site to enjoy the recordings.
Side 1:

Side 2:

As is evident from the recordings, this copy has clearly been played cautiously on good quality equipment. There are quiet lead-ins to both sides. The record is quiet in between tracks. There is great channel separation, clear vocals and a punchy bass. A true final upgrade that would be very difficult to improve upon.

Sleeve: EXCELLENT -
The sleeve looks great. All four sides are clean and maintain bright colours. There is subtle discolouration to the white area either side of the spine. There is no ring wear. The spine is fully readable with just minor wear. The top and bottom edge show subtle storage wear. The corners are strong with just mild softening.
Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT
The original inner sleeve looks great. It is very clean, has minimal discolouration and shows only minor creasing.

Additional Details:
Before the audio test, the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.
After cleaning, the vinyl was placed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.
The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.
The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.

Please see my other listings for more Beatles rarities.
