An original 1971 copy of Zep II on the UK Atlantic label. Plays very nicely other than one major issue - might be of interest to someone looking at a cheap entry route into a Red & Plum original copy. ****READ THE DESCRIPTION IN FULL, FIRST.****
Vinyl (Vg+/g) An odd grading I'll grant you! This LP is by and large in pretty decent condition and plays very nicely indeed. In fact, for the most part, it really does genuinely illustrate why folk get so excited by these early red * plum copies - great audio! But there is one major issue which does rather detract from this - hence the odd grading. The vinyl is relatively clean and unmarked - so it hasn't seen excessive use. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. OK, so the BIG ISSUE... A heat source has got to the extreme edge. This has left a minor kink in the record - in fact the kink isn't much of an issue as it is quite minor. The REAL problem is the heat source has obliterated a small patch [roughly 5c.m. long and 0.5 c.m. wide/deep] at the outer edge of the record in the intro to the track Heartbraker. Thankfully it only causes an issue on side 2, it doesn't appear to have affected side 1 at all. But the first 40 seconds of Heartbraker are pretty much a write-off. It plays through, but you will get a very audible whooshing sound as the needle comes round and hits this section [for roughly 40secs]. A real shame as the remainder of the LP, by and large, is a very nice player. So, anyone interested in snagging this copy needs to do so in full knowledge of this aberration.
Cover (Vg) Very nice condition and better than many examples that surface. A relatively clean front - just a bit of ageing/marking over toward the spine. There's no creasing front or back which is unusual. The interior is excellent - no issues at all. There's relatively minor edge wear and the text on the spine is still mostly legible. Overall the cover retains great rigidity.
