Description

Led Zeppelin - III

(Atlantic K50002 UK LP 1970)

This is a UK pressing from 1972. It is technically a 1st UK "Kinney" pressing. This is where distribution of Atlantic records changed in the UK from "Polydor" to "Warner Bros". It has a heavyweight fully laminated gatefold sleeve which has die-cut areas on the front. It has a cog wheel on the front too. Unfortunately the cog wheel has come attached from the stud at the centre. Therefore, it is loose. It still moves round though obviously. It could probably be carefully reattached. The sleeve has the Kinney "K50002" catalogue number.

It comes with its original company plain paper inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has green & orange "Atlantic" labels.  Interestingly, the record has two sets of matrix numbers. It has the new Kinney matrix numbers, but also has the original Polydor distributed matrix numbers too.

Side 1: K50002 A (2401 002 A-5)
Side 2: K50002 B (2401 002 B-6)

"Do What Thou Wilt" is still faintly etched in the dead wax on Side 1. A stated, this is a 1st UK "Kinney" pressing from 1972. Definitely the next best thing to plum Atlantic UK original pressings.

Gatefold Sleeve: As stated, the cog wheel has become unattached at the centre. There is a 3 cm tear at the front sleeve opening. There is some light or very mild fading to the white of the sleeve. There is a 5 cm area of moderate rubbing wear at the top edge of the rear sleeve. This runs from the sleeve opening. VG condition

Vinyl: There are some light, very mild or very minor sleeve rubs which can be seen under a strong light. The paper inner sleeve has left some light or very minor marks on a few areas. NEAR EX condition. The labels are in VG++ condition & show light or very mild spindle wear & minor foxing. The company paper inner sleeve is in VG++ condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear & fading. There are no seam splits.

I have fully play tested this LP. It plays VG+ to Near Excellent overall. There is some light, very mild or very minor crackle noticeable in the quieter places. This LP would definitely benefit from a professional clean. Visually is looks lovely & clean. Therefore, any crackle is just down to deep down dirt in the grooves. It would play, I believe, Excellent+ after a professional clean.
