Led Zeppelin III - 1970 - First Press – Atlantic 2401002 Red/Plum label
Superb third album from the British rock monsters – you don't need me to tell you what a cracking album this is, if you're any kind of classic rock fan.
But first press versions of this are hard to find and much prized, so here's the detail (and if you want more photos, just ask):
Sleeve: grades Excellent minus. Rotating wheel is intact and fully functional. A little edge wear, as you'd expect of a 44-year-old cover, and some minor laminate shrinkage, but all in all it's in quality shape.
Spine: uncrushed with lettering clear
Inner sleeve: plain white in excellent condition
Vinyl: plays fine despite a number of hairlines and marks. Occasionally in quiet passages and in between tracks you'll get minor surface noise but nothing of note. Grades VG++
Labels: Side 1 is Excellent, Side 2 is VG, due entirely to a previous owner who has kindly written A.C.Bates in red.
For your info, here's what Discogs says about this pressing:
Matrix numbers A5/B5 in The 1st issue fully-laminated gatefold sleeve with working wheel, printed and made in England by E. J. Day.
Run of wax has “Do what thou wilt” & “So mote it be”, also hand etched on Side One and Two respectively.
Later pressings followed with different Red/Maroon label composition where Peter Grant credit was removed.
The Cat. Number towards the right of the label says 2401002, later labels say 2401-002.
The Credit at the bottom of the label states -"Warner Bros Music Ltd" later labels say "Warner Bros Music".
