Description
Led Zeppelin – III
I am pleased to offer for sale this superb UK 1st pressing of Led Zeppelin’s third studio album, Led Zeppelin III.
It has been suggested that Led Zeppelin III was something of a watershed release for the band, as it marked a change from Page's domination of the first two albums towards a more democratic affair in which all four group members offered up their own compositions and ideas - a pattern that would continue in future sessions. The album added acoustic and folk-rock elements to the band's established rock and blues repertoire, which also helped introduce the band to fans of progressive rock.
Album Details:
Serial number: 2401002
Matrix number: A // 5 Do What Thou Whilt (etched) / B // 5 So mote it be (etched)
Stamper codes: 1 1 8 / 1 2 5
Vinyl Weight: 160g
The matrix numbers and dead-wax etchings confirm that the record is a true UK first pressing. The etchings were not present to subsequent pressings. The mother & stamper codes communicate that the record produced early in the first production cycle. Consequently, the audio reproduction is fantastic. Take a listen yourself below!
The sought after orange & plum Atlantic label are the first variant as is evident from the Peter Grant executive producer credit.
The heavy duty E. J. Day fully laminated gatefold sleeve is the first variant as is evident from the absence of the catalogue number from the rear and the fully functioning rotating wheel to the front.
The album is complete with the original “Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous” polythene line, die-cut inner sleeve.
Condition Report:
In addition to my own conservative grading, I include high-quality, comprehensive photographs as well as a complete audio recording in my listings to enable you to make an informed decision on the condition of this record yourself.
Disc: EXCELLENT -
Labels: EXCELLENT
The labels are clean and retain rich, vibrant colours. Only a small collection of dull spindle trails can be seen around each centre hole.
Visual: EXCELLENT
Both sides of the record retain superb deep gloss playing surfaces. In bright daylight a several light surface marks can be seen to both sides. None can be felt. Under the glare of a halogen desk lamp wispy hairlines can be seen alongside an iridescent rainbow sheen. Very nice!
Sound Quality: EXCELLENT -
Please note: the eBay app does not facilitate playback. Please use the internet site to enjoy the audio clips.
Side 1:
Side 2:
As can be heard in the recordings, the audio playback is excellent. Although light static can be heard during the dead-wax the audio itself is fantastic. There is great channel separation and a superb clarity and distinction to the audio.
Sleeve: EXCELLENT +
The sleeve is in great condition. All four sides are clean and bright. The cover art retains vibrant colours. The corners are stong. The spine and edges are all without wear. If not for a very light crease to the top left-hand corner of the front I would grade near mint.
Inners: EXCELLENT
The original inner sleeve is clean and bright – displaying minimal discolouration or creasing.
Additional Details:
Before the audio recording, the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.
After cleaning, the vinyl was placed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.
The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.
The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.
Please see my other listings for more prog-rock rarities.
