Description

An original Q1 1972 copy on Atlantic Orange & Green label. matrix A3/B4. Want a great playing early Zep4 - but not keen on the prices? - then read on. This early copy comes hot on the heels of those final red & plum copies that are so highly prized. Time frame wise you could could be talking as little as two weeks! So bang for buck this is probably the best copy you can bag. Great audio & Great price. How do we know that it's a mere three months from those original masters? Well, this is the earliest design possible for an orange and green label. The text is all in the bottom half and there's no Warners logo. But the real clincher is that, in the deadwax, this copy still has the original red & plum catalogue information - both sides! Catalogue number "2401012". The 'Mountain Top' error is still exhibiting too. The vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover - thicker card version as was standard during Q4 1971. Also included an original lyric inner sleeve - most likely from 73/74. 
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a few very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with two deviations. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quite and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. When on song this LP is blindingly good. It really can reveal the full glory of Zep IV. By and large a clean player with only slight evidence of use in those tricky acoustic numbers. California plays better than many copies will do - only lightest static audible occasionally. There's a few crackles momentarily as 'Evermore' starts up - but it plays pretty good to my ears. The only vague disappointment is a bit of static here and there during 'Stairway'. Not remotely close to being invasive, and to be fair - this is a particularly fussy track to find playing perfectly clean. Overall a lovely playing plumb matrix copy.
Cover (Ex-) Very nice looking cover with a pretty clean and uncreased front and back. The interior looks great with just minor handling. The spine is really nice with a touch of slightest wear. Edge wear is very minor and the openings are still nice and sharp. The cover still retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed.
Inner (Vg) A bit mucky in one or two spots. A couple of edge splits have been taped up.
