Description

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND IN FULL!!!!!*****

An original and very 1st press of Zep IV on UK Atlantic. In fact this is the very 1st label design for ZepIV [if you ignore the minor and trivial upside down feather version]. Matrix A3/B4. The original design MENTIONS Peter Grant which was never really meant to happen [Page took exception to this]. It also mentions 'Zeppelin' down in the Plum sector. ALL later copies mention Zeppelin in the upper red sector. This is effectively a day 1 copy! - which is kinda cool!. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover. The inner sleeve is probably from early '72 - but does the job!
Vinyl (Vg/G) Ok, So you need to start by getting your expectations down to the right level...at this price level...A Day 1 copy is not gonna play or look anywhere near great - at this price level. Has seen significant use. Shows many marks varying between superficial through to semi-feelable. Not really heavy nasty stuff - but markings are visible and plentiful! So, clearly if you are even someone who is even vaguely fussy - I would imagine this copy is going to be off limits for you. The buyer would need to be someone who can be flexible on looks and audio in order to snag this highly sort after Day 1 copy. After getting everyone's expectations back down to the right level...lets start. Ok. this will not be a clean player - expect crackle at lower levels in lots of places. That said is still pretty good for large parts. There is only one section which is very sub-par and grates....and that's the 1st half of Evermore. The buyer will need to accept that the 2nd half of Evermore is merely OK, and the 1st half is unpleasant with crackle and clicking. The fussy tracks like California and Stairway play ok , but with a few ticks early on. But quite listenable and enjoyable. It's the louder tracks which get away with more of the markings. Signal to Noise gives them an advantage. So, you can be listening to some of them [like Levee] and going... wow - actually this is pretty darn good. But don't be forgiven for thinking grading should be higher than VG. There's a bit of background here and there even in louder tracks. But they are mostly very listenable/enjoyable without much issue. I would argue Levee plays superb! There's also one non-repeating skip in 'Black Dog'. In this track Zep are playing a bit staccato so it doesn't actually sound all that out of place - it would have been worse positioned elsewhere. Overall a nice player with only one uncomfortable patch. Keep expectations reasonable and you will probably quite like it.
Cover (Vg+) In nice condition with relatively clean surfaces. The interior looks nice without issue. Some slight edge wear in places -but nothing worrisome. Spine is very nice.. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) NO splits. Tidy!.
