Description

This is from my own collection I am not a dealer, pictures are of actual item for sale, what you see is what you buy here!

This came from the shop on 1st day of UK release 1970 I can verify.

Interesting one for Zeppelin collectors this is a 1970 UK first pressing with

"do what thou wilt" and "so mote it be" etched on run out

Red Plum label credit with Pete Grant as executive producer on label this was purchased new on 1st day of release so early early as the morning sunrise in Bron Y Aur!

Jimmy Page had Peter Grants production credits hastily removed from all but the very early Red Plum copies so this is your chance to own an original from 1970 with the PG credits.

Close to the master tapes ! Sounding amazing on any good deck...

it's known that early Led Zeppelin albums came out Red and Plum in UK to 1970 so a great original.

Recorded in Wales on batteries and also in London whilst on Zeppelins trip to Bron Y Aur the cottage in Snowdonia Wales Robert Plant visited in his youth, the material here evolved on the road and is largely the sound of a band at work now settled with two successful albums.
Page tried some home grown acoustic numbers which got mixed reviews advance sales alone in USA went Platinum but in UK the response was more muted...perhaps because the band had spent a lot of time in USA chasing the dollar and the UK music press were giving Zep a rough ride?

This album has many gems "since I've been loving you" remained in their live set for many years and is regarded as one of Jimmy Pages finest electric blues recordings, "immigrant song" a viking storming rock attack with volume at 11 !and the gentler beautiful acoustic pieces from Bron Y Aur these are not dated and stand up now accepted as some of the bands finest....

in any case good condition examples of the early Red Plums of the third album are rare finds indeed these days an this is Nr Mint

You can easily find cheaper with "snap crackle and pop" be carefull see our 100% feedback. This is a great copy.

The cover shows little age being from a 1970 genuine 1st press , as such track listings are on the right side, you can be sure this is the 1st press 1970 UK Version. Spine is perfect ! A real keeper for the future.

later presses have track listings on the inner left panel of the gatefold sleeve the magic wheel is working perfectly with no damage also the Hipgnosis designed cover printed by EJ Day in London is of amazing quality given 45 years, this one has been kept in its plastic protector for over 35 years now and has Atlantic super deluxe blue stamp printed on right of front cover.

The Record

I would grade near mint

Top Audio from this 1st press tested on Rega 3 deck

The labels are super vivid colours clean (see photos) have no damage little spindle marks and are bright colours no fading here beauties! Hard to improve on and a keeper!

The record has A7 B5 matrix es and as a nod to Aliester Crowley "do what thou wilt" etched on runout groove! Page was reportedly experimenting in the occult having purchased one of Crowley houses on shores of Loch Ness this message on run out is only on the early presses

This plays well with no skips or jumps and has few hairlines only some slight noise in quiet passages as it's a 45 year old record...

no issues to affect playability and the sound is balances dynamic and punchy great stereo image,

the acoustic tracks very clear we have listened on a rega 3 and prefer some of the early Red plum presses like this one to the new re issues on sale ...but over to the listener.

Why not try a1970 first press?

labels are clean and bright deep colours with no writing or stickers on either side and hardly any spindle wear , a great copy to keep!

Nice fat heavy 70s pre oil crisis vinyl

Matrix numbers are 2401002 A7 B5
