HAPPY XMAS WAR IS OVER
Up for sale is an extremely rare version of the John Lennon classic HAPPY XMAS (WAR IS OVER) that was only released in Richmond, Virginia by Capitol Records during the first week of November, 1985. This is a full sized, solid white LP, catalog # Capitol SPRO-9894. The album has the song Happy Xmas (War is Over) on both Side 1 and Side 2. It is the only special release ever authorized by Yoko Ono, and was limited to a production of just two thousand numbered copies. These were solely distributed and sold in Richmond, Virginia at one local Radio Station (XL102 FM) in order to raise money for the Central Virginia Foodbank.
On the front cover is a printed letter from Yoko that states : "To Our Friends in the Richmond Area: Each month the Central Virginia Foodbank feeds 100,000 hungry people in your community. By purchasing this single, you are helping the Foodbank construct a badly-needed new building, carrying on John's dream of a world where people care for each other. Thank you. Warmly - Yoko Ono Lennon ". The back cover has a picture of local radio and T.V. personalities that helped put the project together.
These albums naturally sold out within a couple of hours, and are no longer available anywhere else in the world. This copy is in mint condition (has never been played), was only removed from the jacket and sleeve to take the pictures below. Each album was numbered from 1 to 2000, and this LP is number 1287 .
