Description
Carney is the third studio album by the American songwriter-musician from Tulsa. The album reached #2 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart. The double sided single “Tightrope b/w “This Masquerade” peaked at # 11 on The Hot 100 Singles Chart. A terrific record, side one explores roots rock, while side two features psychedelic music by the “Master of Time And Space”. The album has been said to be autobiographical and draws parallels between his life and old-fashioned carnivals and circus sideshows. Russell’s songs cast himself as a wanderer making entries in a musical diary. The album echoes themes from The Bands Stagefright album employing metaphors for the pitfalls of being a famous traveling musician.
