Description
If you like your jazz loose, sweaty, and full of crowd energy, this one’s for you. Swiss Movement was recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in June 1969, and it’s one of the great live jazz albums of that era. Les McCann’s electric piano and vocals paired with Eddie Harris on tenor sax made for a set that’s part soul, part groove, part straight-up improvisation. “Compared to What” is the track most people know, and it still holds up as one of the great protest-era jazz cuts.
This pressing comes from Analogue Productions’ Atlantic 75 Series, a reissue program built to mark Atlantic Records’ 75th anniversary. The series worked through 75 titles from the label’s catalog, and the first 2,000 copies of each title were individually numbered and pressed at Quality Record Pressings before the run moved to non-numbered copies. This one is numbered 001108, so it’s from that early QRP batch, not a later repress.
