  This is not a sax "battle".  Jacquet and Young each have a side of the record and do not play together.  The Jacquet sides were recorded in 1945 and 1947 and are  among the most bop oriented of all his recordings.  Sidemen include; Fats Navarro, JJ Johnson, Leo Parker and Joe Newman.  The Young sides were recorded in 1945 and sidemen include Dodo Marmarosa and Vic Dickenson.

  The record, visually, is near VG+.  The Jacquet side has some light scuffs and marks.  The Young side has 2 tiny, light scratches.  I spot played the record and it is a noisy pressing with a fairly loud whoosh ( a sudden increase, then decrease in hiss that repeats with every revolution) .  The whoosh is worst on "D.B. Blues" where it is fairly intrusive.  The record also plays with a moderate level of surface noise of the crackle and tick type.  There are also ticks and pops.  A hard record to grade; while the damage to the record is not severe, the poor pressing quality makes it play G+ on "D.B." and VG- for most of the rest of the record.

  The cover is VG+.  Seams and spine are intact with spots of heavy wear at the corners. The front is still glossy with light wear.  It looks quite nice.  The back has some staining and pen marks that are not too bad.

This record and all the other 10 inch LPs I am listing this week was play graded using a stereo cartridge. They would all play better and with less noise, using a mono cartridge.
