This LP, like so many vintage releases, has seen many reissues and repackaging in the last fifty years. First released in 1961 on Bob Weinstock's specialty label – Prestige/Bluesville - with master engineer Rudy Van Gelder initials - “RVG” in the runout, BVLP 1045 was re-released in 1964 under Weinstock's Blue/Silver Trident Label. Audio quality is generally superb, with wide dynamic range and engaging presence. So, even though this is the 2nd edition, this LP remains very collectible in light of all the subsequent reiterations still to come. Many sellers list 1962 (or even 1961) as the release date for this record but my research indicates otherwise. The good news is that this is still a very rare and collectible LP and although not NM, plays extremely well and is a great value at the price listed.

The vinyl is bright and shiny but does have some scuff marks and paper scratches that do not sound. There is a ¼” 'splotch' on the last band of Side 2 that produces a faint tic but does not affect play. Otherwise, the record plays great with very little surface noise. I don't claim that this record is without flaws. I took the time to listen to both sides and found that the eleven tracks play with almost no audible noise. There are occasional light tics along with the 1/4” 'splotch' mentioned above on Side 2. Side 1 plays almost perfectly. However, any flaws that do exist do not overpower the music in any way. Overall I would rate this record as EXCELLENT.

RECORD GRADING SYSTEM

My records are visually graded, unless stated otherwise, using the following scale: 1. New (Factory Sealed); 2. NM (No scuffs or scratches, looks new; record may never have been played); 3. EX (Not quite but still entirely acceptable sound, possibly a few visible imperfections that generally don't affect the sound quality, occasional isolated ticks possible); 4. VG+(Occasional scratches, more tics but still plays extremely well with no pops or clicks, could be noisier at the beginning of each side. Labels are perfect with no tears, marks, writing or noticeable spindle wear.; 5. VG (vinyl will have noticeable scratches or scuffs that produce occasional clicks and/or pops, but do not overpower the music. There will be no skips. Vinyl may appear somewhat dull and grayish. Labels may have small tears, marks, or deformation of the spindle hole. This is the lowest grade I sell and is reserved primarily for very rare LP's or early mono records from Westminster, Period, or Remington.
