-Exceedingly scarce-



MONSTROUSLY RARE ORIGINAL, FIRST COVER VERSION
(pink at the bottom, a darker shade of pink at the top, with a drawing of a bell
on the left side and "LIGHTNIN' SLIM'S” in white at the top,
with "BELL RINGER" below it in black –
NOT the later black cover with swirling yellow lines.

Up for auction this afternoon is an original first pressing of the impressively scarce BELL RINGER by Lightnin' Slim on Excello, reference #8004.

Original orange EXCELLO label with navy blue/black print.

Rare MONO pressing, much more scarce than "Electronically Rechannelled Stereo" pressing.

This is the FLAT EDGE pressing, not the tapered. just look at a quarter in your pocket for example.

This is the real deal, an authentic US first pressing, NOT a re-issue or an import or a counterfeit!

A rather thick heavy vinyl pressing.

The images in this auction are the album being auctioned, these are not recycled images of another album.





There is a small area of sleeve separation along top in left corner along spine, a slightly larger area along bottom, right side.



Good sheen to the playing surface, some slight spindle wear.

One side shows some inaudible paper scuff, probably from factory, several slight marks from handling & playing, would grade it conservatively at VG-VG+, these are harder than some to grade but I had other friends in the trade look at it and the grouping was pretty tight as a consensus. As a rule I always encourage conservative bidding, these are not Mint or M- so don't cash in your grandkids college fund.



I played these after a cautious cleaning and it's impressively good, a slight bit of surface noise occasionally as is expected. If this is NOT to your liking for some reason (old blues without a wee bit of snap, crackle and/or pop??) you can buy this title on CD from another seller.



The superb early Lightnin' Slim material on Excello. He never sang with more clarity or conviction, nor did his harmonica or guitar playing ever sound more electrifying than on these songs, many of which were popular singles. Other than Rice Miller's (Sonny Boy Williamson II) definitive anthem, Slim's rendition of "Don't Start Me To Talking" was the finest.
