Description

Ultra Limited hand screened first album by Brian's Gibson & Chippendale, aka Lightning Bolt. The little pink creature running from knives on the cover is an apt description of the music within. This is raw uncut LB at its genesis, with most tracks recorded by the band at Fort Thunder, the live/work/wrestle/performance space which was a catacomb of art and mystery. Or just an awesome place where an amazingly talented group of like minded individuals created heaps of art and music that vastly affected both above and below ground culture. And there was wrestling. And a refrigerator door secret entrance. And a pile of mattresses and bikes. And...

The one track not recorded by the band, which references the cover-"Fleeing From The Valley Of Whirling Knives", was recorded by Rick Peltier of Six Finger Satellite, Landed, The Chinese Stars, Men's Recovery Project, etc. and the record was mixed at his and 6FS' studio The Parlour.

This is what it was like to hear the band play at the beginning, and as it's been told the sweaty shows would often end with blood sprayed about the drums and walls. All births are bloody.

Sleeve is in great condition with slight edge bends and paint bleed from the early screening process. The vinyl is smooth to the touch, but if held to the light you can see some light scratches and scuffing. I have highlighted the worst of this in the pictures, with the same section of record pictured twice with different lighting, showing that the grooves are completely intact and playback is not affected.

Includes original insert of the Load Records promo booklet for their then current releases. The blurb on Lightning Bolt reads:

"Two piece Providence RI-based outfit with drum and bass that kicks up some serious dust. Load is proud to present this bewildering heavy metal crusade against rock music's bullshit tradition. Literally bursting at the seams with hyper rhythm drumming and beastly buzz bin-busting bass, this 12" will be the soundtrack for your 2 hour look into the spots of the sun! Features a Fort Thunder silkscreened cover."
