Lightning Raiders – Criminal World 1981 Single + promotional items – George Butler’s own copy.
This is a great little collection of items relating to the group Lightning Raiders. The main item is a great example of their single – Criminal World / Citizens – released on the Revenge label in 1981, REVS 200. The record and the thin card picture cover are both in perfect Mint condition. I am fairly sure that it has never been played.It has been stored with various paper items. There are two identical 10” x 8” photoraphs showing the line-up of Lightning Raiders at the time of this single release. It has their name at the top and the logos of Revenge Records and Island Records in the bottom border. There are nine single-sided sheets of paper stapled together. The top sheet is from Conspiracy Management Ltd and gives a biography of the band and lists the members. The other sheets contain copies of adverts and reviews of the band from UK music papers including Sounds, Melody Maker, Record Mirror, and others. (One of these refers to the group’s appearance at Reading Rock ’81). The other items are stickers. There is a sheet of twelve black stickers with the name of Lightning Raiders, as well as two and three further examples – all still on their backing sheets. A larger pink sticker with the name of the group is also on its backing sheet, and finally there is an even larger unused sticker with the dates of Reading Rock 81 (August 28, 29, 30).
I bought this group of items along with a few others that were the belongings of George Butler – the drummer in this group at the time of the record’s release (and with a long career in various bands – that can fairly easily be researched). The record on its own is quite desirable – but to have the other items with it make it quite a unique item.
