Description
"Limited First Edition: The Music of Mozart and Beethoven; The Casals Festival at Perpignan", copy #902 of a limited edition of 2000. Columbia SL-170, a 13 LP box set featuring the albums ML 4551 through ML 4562 + a bonus LP which has 2 short Casals performances on Side 1 & a rehearsal of the Allegro movement from Bach's Concerto in A Minor for Violin featuring Isaac Stern on Side 2.
Each LP has limited edition gold labels & is in its original issue jacket. The bonus LP jacket boasts a photo of Casals by Gjon Mili.
The records: ML 4552, ML 4553, ML 4557, ML 4560, ML 4561 & the bonus LP are all VG++ to MINT MINUS: very quiet. ML 4551: Side 1 is VG: clean except for a scratch & a needle drop which tick but play right through; Side 2 is VG+++. ML 4559: Side 1 is VG: a long scuff which ticks but plays through; Side 2 is VG+++. The other five LPs are VG+ to VG+++ or M-: one side of each has a minor scratch or needle drop & the other is nice & clean.
The jewel in the crown of this set is ML 4553, Erica Morini performing Mozart's Concerto No. 5 in A Major for Violin and Orchestra. It is MINT MINUS!!!
There are also several fine performances by Alexander Schneider, Isaac Stern & William Primrose.
The covers are all VG++: fine & sturdy except for partial top seam splits. The outer box is VG++: some minor edge wear; otherwise intact & sturdy.
