Description

This limited edition album set contains six 12" HMV records (D.B. 4908 - D.B. 4913) featuring harpsichordist Wanda Landowska playing thirty Goldberg Variations by Bach.  A card pasted to the inside of the front cover is signed by the artist and reads: "This Edition of Bach's Goldberg Variations played by Wanda Landowska is published in England by 'His Master's Voice' for the Bach Society.  The first three hundred are autographed by the artist."  There is a 16-page booklet containing an the essay "The Goldberg Variations" by Edwin Evans.  The booklet is intact but discolored on the outside by faint brown spots.  The records are contained in pockets that have flaps.  Wikipedia notes that the Polish-born musician was the "first person to record Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations on the harpsichord in 1931."  Whether the records offered here are the recordings from 1931 I do not know but it seems reasonable to assume they may be.  All six discs are, by sight, in E+ condition.  Alas, when they are played, they sound is not crystal clear, compromised by slight surface noise which may be attributable to the pressing or the recording techniques of 80 years ago.  Still, this album is an admirable production. Condition as noted, E--  Because of shipping cost I am limiting this to bidders within the continental United States.
