Jazz at the U of U (red album)

Original issue private jazz LP which fuses modern jazz with Eastern melodies, modes and rhythms.  The album includes the following items and more:

Lloyd Miller was one of the original innovators of the Oriental Jazz concept which is currently enjoying a revival due to significant radio air-play throughout Europe by DJ's such as Gilles Peterson.  Dr. Lloyd Miller first went to Iran in 1957 and returned for an extended stay of seven years beginning with a Fulbright scholarship in the 1970s.  This resulted in the publication of "Music and Song in Persia: The Art of Avaz" by Curzon Press, London.

After spending many years in Europe during the late1950s and 1960s where he performed with Don Ellis, Eddie Harris, Jef Gilson (soloist and featured on Gilson's first 10" LP) Freddie Deronde, Lennart Jansson, Lars Farnlof and Peter Trunk among others, he returned to the US to continue creating East West jazz blends.

In Utah, Miller won the Intercollegiate Jazz Festival trophies three consecutive years and a national trophy for his East West compositions, some of which are on this album.

Rare item, very good condition, only 500 pressed, very few available.

Jacket includes excerpt from an article about Miller at the 1969 Intercollegiate Jazz Festival finals in St. Louis by John S. Wilson of the New York Times.
