Description

A very rare collector's item: "THE JAZZ SCENE", a 1949, beautiful folio collection of music, photographs, and text, produced by Norman Granz.

For its age, this is a beautiful copy. There are no torn or damaged pages. The discs appear to have never been played and are, as a result, in MINT condition. The paper the text was printed on is not archival, so there is age-yellowing. Additionally, the two photographs adhered to the covers, are rub-worn a bit. Otherwise, this is an almost unbelievable copy that appears to have been purchased and never even thumbed through. The pages are in that sort of surprising condition.

The collection is contained in sturdy, black, cloth covered, ledger-type binder. The binder can be opened and each page removed, if desired. It measures 12.5" x 14.5".

This was an edition limited to 5,000 copies, each signed by Norman Granz. This is copy number 4993.

Contains:
1.) 30, 12 x 12 inch, black and white photographs by Gjon Mili (with one each from Harold Trudeau and Paul Nodler).
2.) A fold out, original drawing by David Stone Martin.
3.) 10 pages of text.
4.) Six, 78 rpm discs (which appear to have never been played).

Disc 1.) The Ellington Sides: "SONO" and "FRUSTRATION".

Disc 2.) The Neal Hefti Sides: "REPETITION" and "RHUMBACITO".

Disc 3.) The Lester Young Side: "I WANT TO BE HAPPY". The Coleman Hawkins Side: "PICASSO".

Disc 4.) The Ralph Burns Side: "INTROSPECTION". The George Handy Side: "THE BLOOS".

Disc 5.) The Charlie Parker Side: "THE BIRD". The Willie Smith Side: "SOPHISTICATED LADY".

Disc 6.) The Machito Side: "TANGA". The Bud Powell Side: "CHEROKEE".
