Lot of 9 vintage 1940s-50s Frederic W. Ziv Co. World Broadcasting System, Inc. (WBS) 16" really cool red translucent vinyl double sided LP discs with original sleeves; Voice over biographies of historical figures: Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Beethoven, Eli Whitney, Booker T. Washington, Andrew Carnegie, Alexander Hamilton, Mozart, and many more, three per side; Each disc is approx. 20 minutes.
World Broadcasting System, Inc. was an American recording service for the radio industry founded in 1929 in New York. The company recorded and distributed discs to radio stations for broadcast. The discs were 16 inches in diameter, wide-range, vertical-cut, recorded at 33-1/3 R.P.M. and play 15 minutes per side on average. Not sold to the public, these recordings were produced especially for radio studios that could not afford a studio orchestra. They featured the popular singers and bands of the day, as well as jingles, sound effects, and narrated stories, biographies, and historical events.
Ziv Co. owned WBS from 1948 to 1960 but the discs do not have printed dates. I haven't played the records, but they appear to be in great condition with no scratches, and the sleeves look great as well.
