Lou Reed: Coney Island Baby LP (1981 Reissue LP)
I bought this record when it was reissued with the RCA green labels back in 1981 and it has been very well looked after as part of my personal record collection ever since. The sleeve is in great shape for nearly 40 years old, please take the time to scroll through all the photos to see the condition. The spine is fully readable as you can see in the third photo and there are no seam splits of biro writing anywhere. The inner sleeve was issued as a plain white generic sleeve so I upgraded this years ago into a white poly lined inner that has protected the vinyl from damage as it gets taken in and out to play it. I did this with all my records as the supplied plain paper inner sleeves would tend to scratch and mark the vinyl with hairlines when you slid the record in and out as some of them were made of cheap paper that had quite a rough texture. This has helped to maintain the vinyl in lovely condition and it will be supplied with this.
I have just cleaned it in my professional record cleaning machine with the award winning L'Art Du Son fluid so it is now free from dust and static and in the best possible condition ready for the new owner to enjoy. I also just test played it all the way through on both sides on my Project Debut Carbon turntable fitted with an Ortefon 2M Blue stylus. It plays through beautifully with barely a crackle and absolutely no skipping, sticking or jumping guaranteed.
These 1981 RCA green label represses were done very well indeed from the original analogue tapes and tbh I can't notice any difference between this and my 1975 original pressing. I have a few Lou Reed and Bowie reissues on the green label and I highly recommend them for great analogue sound and saving yourself a ton of money seeking out a first pressing in excellent condition! It sounds fully dynamic and rich and still with very little intrusive surface noise. Its infinitely superior sounding than the recent modern reissue vinyl pressing that I also have from last year that was sourced and remastered from a digital file and quite a cold more sterile sound in comparison.
*Please note that one thing I did notice whilst test playing when I flipped it over onto side B was that it has a bit of an edge warp (only noticeable on the second side). It does not affect play or the sound in any way, but its there so I need to point it out and it may put some people off buying it, but its purely a cosmetic issue. It may even be something you can get fixed in a vinyl flat machine or just by stacking it vertically between your records, but its not really necessary, it still sounds awesome and it was probably there from when I originally purchased it as I only ever took a record back if it skipped or the warp was so severe that it affected the sound quality.
