Incredibly rare original promotional set of Lou Reed’s second solo album “Transformer” released by RCA Records in the late 1972. Without any doubts the key role in the creation of the record which has become a cult album over time played the fact that it was produced by David Bowie. We’ve collected a series of rare promotional items related to the album listing it for an auction as a set. First and foremost, it’s a factory sealed DJ promotional album. Original 1st "Shorepak - U.S." printed cover with the gold ink finish at the top edge on the front and back. The front cover contains a large white 4” x 6’"promotional sticker with the recommendations for radio station DJs to audition the album's tracks before radio airplay affixed underneath the shrink wrap. The sticker contains a track listing with the timing for each track, “TRANSFORMER LOU REED” banner, “PROMOTIONAL ALBUM - NOT FOR SALE” text and “LSP-4807” catalog number. Whereas the sticker and the back cover indicate the “LSP-4807” catalog number, the bottom spine reads “0598”. The front cover also has a very rare black hype sticker reading “FEATURES THE COMPLETE, UNEDITED ‘WALK ON THE WILD SIDE’ LSP-4807” affixed to the shrink wrap. Despite the fact that it touched upon the tabooed subjects, the “Walk On The Wild Side” single was a part of many radio stations’ playlist. Moreover, in 2015 the single with the song was inducted into the Grammy’s Hall of Fame. The promotional copy of the single included into this set is perhaps even rarer than the promotional copy of the album. The record presents the “Walk On The Wild Side” single in both formats, Mono and Stereo. The single version runs for 3:37 while the LP album version is 4:12. The Original RCA Victor promotional labels contain the “Not For Sale” banner and the catalog number “SP-45-425 / BPKM-7715” on the Mono side and “SPS-45-425 / BPKS-7715” on the Stereo one. The full matrix numbers include the earliest 1st -A1 / -A1 mother stampers and are as follows: Side 1 (Mono) - BPKM 7715 1S 1 1 A1; Side 2 (Stereo) - BPKS 7715 2S A1 1A. This 45 RPM promo single comes with the original “RCA Promotional Copy Demonstration Sample Not For Sale” company sleeve. One of the first concerts as a part of Lou Reed’s tour dedicated to promote the release of “Transformer”, was given at the Alice Tully Hall on Broadway, New York, which was also Lou Reed’s first solo concert in the US after he left The Velvet Underground. We’ve found and included into this set an insanely rare January 25, 1973 example of “The Village Voice” newspaper with a large full-page advert promoting the album and the concert at the Alice Tully Hall with the slogan reading “Will you still be underground when Lou Reed emerges on January 27 to perform at Alice Tully Hall?” Without any doubts, this advert will look perfect when framed. It’s interesting to note that the back side of the Lou Reed advert features another advert promoting “A Valentine’s Day Concert” at the Radio City Music Hall also in New York by David Bowie, who was as mentioned previously the producer of the album. The newspaper’s title page contains a “FOR XEROX ONLY PLEASE RETURN TO FRONT DESK” burgundy rubber ink stamp.

The factory sealed copy is in vintage Mint Minus condition. The front and back cover have several factory creases which are commonly found on the covers of this issue, apparently due to the peculiarities of its manufacturing process. The shrink wrap is fully intact and contains the original breathe hole on the front cover. The RCA Records promotional 45 RPM sleeve is in Near Mint Minus condition, very clean and doesn’t have any soiling, writing, residue, wear, scuffs or ring wear, just some very light signs of use. The 7” promotional vinyl appears to be practically unplayed and in Near Mint condition. It has only a couple of tiny and barely noticeable very light hairlines. The labels are very clean and in Mint Minus condition. The vinyl sounds marvelous presenting the ”Walk On The Wild Side” in both formats. The Village Voice newspaper with the “Transformer” advert is in great vintage condition with all of the pages fully intact just has some very light age shelf wear and light signs of use.
