Description
Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington Recording Together For The First Time / The Great Reunion (2-LP)
Original Master Recording (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab) (MFSL 2-155)
Armstrong (tpt, vcl) and Ellington (p, composer) with Trummy Young (tb); Barney Bigard (cl); Mort Herbert (b); and Danny Barcelona (d).Recorded on 3 and 4 april, 1961 for Roulette.
It was an all-Ellington repertoire, but the Maestro featured Satchmo on every tune, allowing him to decide whether he would just play trumpet or sing, too. The supremely assured Ellington might have been surprised - though he would never have let on - at how confident his star soloist was: He knew by heart every tune that the composer called.
Issue: This is the 1984 Mobile Fidelity release, licensed from Roulette's Birdland series. Plated and pressed on high definition super vinyl by Victor of Japan, with original static- and dust-free inner sleeves intact.
The original stereo master tape was mastered for this release with the Ortofan cutting system by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, Chatsworth, California.
Record 1, side A runout: MFSL-2-155-1-A1 (stylized) JH/2 H 111 (stylized 'JH' almost a '#')
Record 1, side B runout: MFSL-2-155-1-B1 (stylized) JH/2 H 111 Record 2, side A runout: MFSL-2-155-2-C2 (stylized) JH/2 H 121 P Record 2, side B runout: MFSL-2-155-2-D1 (stylized) JH/2 H 111
Condition: NM. No marks; records are clean, very fine, play like new; no spindle wear. Flat edge.
Deluxe, gatefold LP cover photo and text are clean and clear. Spine is clean, too, with only very slight bump at top. Small blemish on upper right of back cover. Both bottom corners of gatefold cover - of records 1 and 2 - also have slight bump. Inside of gatefold photos and text are unmarked.
The copy that I bought had had a hole punched, from the front of the gatefold cover through to the back, near the lower right corner. The original inner sleeves, therefore, have the hole as well.
I'm an independent seller divesting his own record collection. I'm not selling from a store or warehouse, with multiple copies of titles, or on behalf of a professional collector. Online listings have copies of this 2-LP set for sale at over $100.
Shipping: Ebay requires seller to indicate shipping methods and other particulars, then automatically inserts the cost at the top of the listing. Buyer will pay amount as determined by destination and shipping method he chooses; I don't gouge the price to make more profit. (USPS Media Mail is cheapest; I will provide prices for US Priority, or for FedEx or UPS ground, if requested.)
Insurance is mandatory.
Please wait till I inform you of cost prior to submitting payment. It and not Ebay's stated cost is the amount to be paid.
**For winners outside US**: USPS shipping options are International Priority and International Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express has tracking. If you want a different shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction.
Packing: The LP set will be carefully wrapped, then placed in a standard, cardboard LP box. Please indicate any special instructions.
Payment: I accept Paypal. I also accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.
Returns: Returns will be accepted in cases of error in description.
