Louis Armstrong Louis I've Got the World on a String Verve Records Stereo MG VS-6101 1957
Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971), nicknamed Satchmo,[1] Satch, or Pops was an American trumpeter, composer, singer and occasional actor who was one of the most influential figures in jazz. His career spanned five decades, from the 1920s to the 1960s, and different eras in jazz. Coming to prominence in the 1920s as an "inventive" trumpet and cornet player, Armstrong was a foundational influence in jazz, shifting the focus of the music from collective improvisation to solo performance. With his instantly recognizable gravelly voice, Armstrong was also an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. He was also skilled at scat singing.
Arranged and conducted by Russell Garcia.
See pictures. Album cover has a price sticker on the back. Album inner and outer sleeves are discolored from age. Small split (~1/4") at top edge of outer sleeve. Under bright light, I see some very superficial small scratches & smudges. I'm selling my mom's record collection, so I'm not a professional at grading records...just trying to document what I see. This record is from my mom's house and she used to smoke more than 12 years ago.
