Description

Up for auction is a fine copy of the massively rare original 1968 UK 1st pressing of 'Astral Weeks' by VAN MORRISON on Warner Brothers WS 1768. This is the original UK 1st pressing on thick and chunky vinyl and the all important orange labels! The record is complete with the mega rare 1st press laminated Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. tri-flipback sleeve with 1st press boxed Warner Bros. Seven Arts logos! Impossibly rare as a true UK orange label Warner Brothers 1st pressing!

The UK 1st ever pressing is how 'Astral Weeks' was originally intended to sound coming straight from the master press. The playback quality of this 1st pressing is quite rightly regarded as one of the peaks of 1960ies UK vinyl production. Even the immediate 2nd pressing of 'Astral Weeks' on the green Warner Bros. labels show a distinct deterioration in sound quality from this stunning record! The 1968 UK 1st pressing has the most amazing richness of depth, warmth and chiming string clarity, and when coupled with Richard Davis' awesome underlying bass, it is completely hypnotizing to listen to! Those who know about this album do not only seek the orange label 1st pressing for its incredible rarity, but also for the unique audio perfection of this record from start to finish, that makes it such a treasured record!

VINYL condition: Both sides are graded as a very respectable VG++/EXCELLENT. A very, very nice clean example of this rarity! Both sides are still shiny & clean! There's only one tiny little mark on B3 (Ballerina) and that's about it! Playback is just FANTASTIC!

LABEL condition: Both matt-finished orange labels are free of any unwanted writings (please see scans!). There's a fair amount of spindle-wear visible if you hold the record in a certain angle into the light. Matrix numbers are: WS 1768A-2 and WS 1768B-2.

COVER condition: The COVER shows signs of use, a number of smaller creases at the front panel (especially towards the spine) and some corner wear. All three seams are intact and without any splits. The spine is fully legible and record information in white lettering very striking. The back panel is quite clean with a small name written in the top right hand corner. All three flipbacks of the original Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. sleeve are intact and undamaged. All in all the COVER will grade as VG-.

The album will be mailed to the lucky winner in a stiff record mailer with extra cardboard stiffeners for full protection!
