Description

I received this rare promotional LP while working a Luther Allison roadshow. Entitled,"Luther Allison Underground", it was produced by Bobby Rush and privately pressed to be sold at concert venues and given out as a promotional item.  It is extremely rare. Vinyl is in very good condition and is in the original unmarked (though crudely labelled) jacket and has been played a couple of times at most. Sleeve is very age worn. 


The release  of Underground was originally reported to be a set of previously unreleased demo recordings from1958, but after extensive reviews and analysis it has been reported that the  recordings were actually more likely from a 1968 session for an upcoming record  release that never occurred.


Allison was playing guitar behind bandleader/vocalist Bobby Rush. With Rush’s support, they cut this series of songs. The songs were played live with the tape rolling through the session. Most tunes were purportedly cut in a single take. The disc begins with “Hide Away,”a Hound Dog Taylor tune cut two years before Freddie King made it a hit.
