Description
One More from the Road (Styled as "One More For From The Road") is a live album by Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, capturing three shows recorded in July 1976, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 1974, Lynyrd Skynyrd had supported rock promoter Alex Cooley so that the Fox Theatre was saved from demolition. This record was the band's first live album, and the only live album from the band's classic era of 1970 to 1977 prior to the plane crash that killed lead singer and songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines. The album was released in September 1976. It was certified gold on October 26, 1976, platinum on December 30, 1976 and 3x platinum on July 21, 1987 by the RIAA.
The original 14 tracks include a cover of Jimmie Rodgers' "T for Texas" and a 13:30 version of "Free Bird".
The live version of "Sweet Home Alabama" from this album was used as a track on the music rhythm video games Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero On Tour:
Lynyrd Skynyrd (/?l?n?rd ?sk?n?rd/ LEN-?rd SKIN-?rd) is an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964. The group was originally named My Backyard and comprised Ronnie Van Zant (lead vocalist), Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass guitar) and Bob Burns (drums). The band spent five years touring small venues under a variety of different names and with several lineup changes before finally deciding on "Lynyrd Skynyrd" in 1969. The band released their first album in 1973, having settled on a lineup that included bassist Leon Wilkeson and former Strawberry Alarm Clock guitarist Ed King. Burns would later be replaced by Artimus Pyle, and King by Steve Gaines. At the height of their fame during the 1970s, the band popularized the Southern rock genre with songs such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird".
Their career was abruptly halted after Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines were killed in an airplane crash on October 20, 1977. The band re-formed in 1987 for a reunion tour with Ronnie's brother, Johnny Van Zant, as its lead vocalist. Lynyrd Skynyrd continues to tour and record with co-founder Rossington (being the band's sole continuous member), Johnny Van Zant, and Rickey Medlocke, who first wrote and recorded with the band from 1971 to 1972 before his return in 1996.
Lynyrd Skynyrd has sold 28 million records in the United States. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006. In January 2018, Lynyrd Skynyrd announced their farewell tour, and are also working on a final studio album.
