VERY rare...Original 1968 ADVANCE RELEASE WHITE LABEL PROMOTIONAL ...

Old white label promo's are said to be the best sound quality as they are pressed first from the freshly cut masters, in very limited quantity, and sent to select radio stations & magazines for review...so many years later white label promotional albums are highly sought collected rarities...

THE RED KRAYOLA were label mates of the 13th Floor Elevators, and while not pursuing the same spiritual path, were nonetheless as 'out there' [if not even further] musically, combining elements of psychedelia, avant garde and musique concrete. So have a listen to God Bless The Red Krayola, and it should reveal a sweet side to the freaky side of garage music in the sixties. Basically take their first album, Parable Of Arable Land..., and shift the entire thing a bit more toward the conventional side of music. There's structured melodic songs stuck in between tracks consisting of the crew tripping on instruments, and the real songs are catchier and is less in the vein of sonic collages and more like really weird jams and stuff like that. It's got about a million really short songs, but they all end up blending together quite well, due to sharing a similar sound and mood, and the album comes off as very coherent. This band often reminds of The Velvet Underground at times, with the whole artsy-lo-fi-early-indie-messy-can't-sing thing going on.

Far gentler than, though equally quirky as, their maiden effort, the Red Krayola’s second album was a series of odd miniatures that, though far more restrained than Parable of Arable Land, was a much more solid indication of the direction Mayo Thompson would explore over the next few decades. These are less ’songs’ than stream-of-consciousness fragments. Thompson’s wavering, quizzical voice intones disjointed but evocative lyrics that may appear to be non sequiturs. Odd time meters and musical shifts do their best to defy conventional rock song structures. It’s not very poppy, no, but if the description sounds foreboding, be assured that as experimental rock goes, it’s far warmer and friendlier than the norm.

CONDITION: The cover: The front cover is white, right? and white covers from 40 years ago are normally quite dirty, stained and/or soiled by 40 years later...this one is exceptional "EX" (excellent!) strong, stiff and solid, no problems (no seam splits, no bends, no writing) looks terrific as a rare display item from the Texas sixties garage era. The back cover with group photos has a little wear starting, not bad, VG++ ...all together TOP level rarity!

The vinyl: The white label promo vinyl is very clean and ALL glossy M- TOPS!
