Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. VERY CLEAN 48 years ago FIRST PRESS (1970 Orig) of the legendary Electrified Folk Psych classic from England ... only getting harder, by the day, to find in this stunning condition !!

the 1970 first album by the Trees, easily fits in with the top three UK folk rock bands of the 70's --- if not all time.

Dating from 1970 the album blends trippy, twin lead guitar meshed in West Coast acid rock grooves with lilting English folk vocals. The delicate female vocals of Celia Humphries and a haunting production weave dark magical Celtic spells over the misty musical moorlands.

Captivating, beautiful and timeless.

Elsewhere: "Nothing Special" is such a misleading song title- the guitar playing in the beginning is VERY VERY special! Throw in a chugging, nonchalant rhythm with magnificent electric guitar soloing and you know what this song is? An absolute masterpiece! Soon very pleasant female vocals come in, and they deliver a great melody. However that intro- really impressive guitar work! The chugging acoustic guitar with the electric guitar jams...fantastic!

"The Great Silkie" has REALLY beautiful and haunting slow-moving vocals; beautiful UK folk and rock combined. Soon the slowness goes away as the electric guitar arrives and furiously picks up the pace. You may never experience *this* kind of guitar playing with folk music.

"The Garden of Jane Delawney" as heard above contains more haunting vocals with harpsichord and subtle tempo changes. Delicate vocals are a thing of beauty when executed properly, as they are here. "Lady Margaret" is as traditional as folk music can sound both in the vocal melody and the delicate arrangements. Soon however, once again (which is now becoming a theme) the electric guitar comes in and dazzles us once more. We can't stress enough how unique it is to have folk music combined with jam material-like this sort of electric guitar work. "Glasgerion" is one of the weaker moments here. Speedy, barely memorable/melodic vocals and nothing else about it jumps out other than some nifty guitar work near the end.

"She Moves Through the Fair" takes a while to get going due to the somewhat pedestrian vocal melody, but soon a mellow guitar jam comes in and then like magic, there's something really appealing about the track! Elsewhere,"Road" has male and female vocals trading back and forth over a swift-moving acoustic guitar bit, including some interesting guitar tricks occurring at the end of the song. "Epitaph" is dreary, quiet, vocally powerful, instrumentally beautiful, etc. "Snail's Lament" is more male/female vocals (this time singing simultaneously) and the lyrics/atmosphere breathes optimism, a change in the otherwise dark atmosphere unveiled throughout the album.

Overall, one may consider this to be a pretty strange album. One way of looking at the music is like this- the music is very pretty, contains the English folk-rock style *exceptionally* well performed all-around really pleasant music. But remember, all throughout, there's a heavy punch to these songs, such as "Lady Margaret", guitar playing  quite solid with a hint of blues among all the pretty instrumentation. The direction of the music can switch gears dramatically in some instances.

The Garden of Jane Delawney sounds somewhat like prime like Fairport Convention in ways, but this album is actually better than any of Fairport Convention's recordings because of the ways the backing instruments are arranged; feeling totally right. The female lead singer has a pretty voice, and the mystical vibe of the English folk-rock style is implemented nicely here. Obviously well worth owning.
