Amon Düül II "Yeti"
The second album by Amon Düül II (not to be confused with the more anarchic radicals Amon Düül), 1970's Yeti, is their first masterpiece, one of the defining early albums of Krautrock. A double album on vinyl, Yeti consists of a set of structured songs and a second disc of improvisations. It's testament to the group's fluidity and improvisational grace that the two albums don't actually sound that different from each other, and that the improvisational disc may actually be even better than the composed disc. The first disc opens with "Soap Shop Rock," a 12-minute suite that recalls King Crimson's early work in the way it switches easily between lyrical, contemplative passages and a more violent, charging sound, and continues through a series of six more songs in the two- to six-minute range, from the ominous, threatening "Archangels Thunderbird" (featuring a great doomy vocal by mono-named female singer Renate) to the delicate, almost folky acoustic tune "Cerberus." The improvisational disc contains only three tracks, closing with a nine-minute stunner called "Sandoz in the Rain" that's considered by many to be the birth of the entire space rock subgenre. A delicate, almost ambient wash of sound featuring delicately strummed phased acoustic guitars and a meandering flute, it's possibly the high point of Amon Düül II's entire career.
Amon Duul II
Amon Düül preferred the commune life to the hurly-burly of the music business, releasing several albums edited from recordings of a single extended jam session conducted in 1968. Several commune members with greater musical ambitions formed Amon Düül II -- they saw no reason to struggle for a new name, or argue over the original. The new group was helmed by John Weinzierl, Chris Karrer and Renate Knaup-Kroetenschwanz, and set to work to produce an impressive debut with Phallus Dei. This was followed quickly by the double album Yeti, the cover of which features one of the band's roadies.
1972 brought the release of another two-LP set -- Tanz der Lemminge ("Dance of the Lemmings"), a recording widely considered to be the keystone of the Amon Düül II catalog. With stylistic abandon, the album mixed together everything from straight-ahead rock to experimental noodling, all built around a series of science-fiction themes. The band performed with a joyfulness that belied the real seriousness of the experimental work involved.
They continued on this path for several years, continuing to release highly regarded albums that achieved only moderate sales, at best. 1975's Made in Germany (released in two-LP and single-LP versions) found the band making an attempt to present a more commercially appealing side, with little effect on the market. Continuing failure to crack the mainstream eventually brought the band back to its more experimental roots, though not before causing the core unit to fall moribund for a while.
In 1981, a further spin-off, formed by John Weinzierl under the original name (and also known as Amon Düül UK and, rarely, as Amon Düül III) recorded sporadically in the 1980s. Weinzierl worked with former Hawkwind member Dave Anderson on a total of five albums (one of which, Airs on a Shoestring, was a compilation drawn from the first two, with additional material salted in), with additional bandmembers coming from all walks of the British progressive/psychedelic scene. For Lösung, Weinzierl and Anderson collaborated with the late Robert Calvert, as well as drummer Guy Evans.
Amon Düül II reappeared during the 1990s, producing a series of remixes and original material, as well as Live in Tokyo and the intriguing benefit album Kobe (Reconstruction), which focused on material from 1969-1971. Members continue to be active with both solo and band projects. EastWest Records Germany released a four-CD retrospective box set in 1997. The '90s renewed interest in Krautrock culminated with the re-release of three of the group's albums -- Wolf City, Yeti and Viva la Trance -- in 1999.

Vinyl Record Care and Maintenance
Cleanliness is absolutely mandatory if the optimum sound capability of the vinyl record is to be realized. A clean record will not only sound better, but last longer. It has been shown that repeated playing of dirty records can cause permanent damage to the vinyl. Preservation of valuable or irreplaceable records requires careful cleaning. Further more, stylus wear is greatly accelerated by playing dirty records, and with cartridges costing what they do these days, playing soiled records can lead to significant and unneeded expense.
Vinyl Records, What is a Vinyl Record??
Vinyl records were introduced and marketed as the unbreakable record, unlike its shellac counterpart of days gone by, that would break at the drop of a hat and becomes more brittle over time. Vinyl records are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) which has been proven to be a most stable material for sound recording. As a practical matter, vinyl records provide excellent sound quality when treated with care.Vinyl Records were the music source of choice for radio stations for decades, and the switch to digital music libraries by radio stations has not produced a noticeable improvement in sound quality..., as a note most radio stations severely reduce the dynamic range of their broadcasts and the allowed frequency bandwidth for a radio station is less than the bandwidth on a well-made record. Casual ears cannot detect a difference in quality between a CD and a clean new LP.

Storing Your Collectible Vinyl Records
Store your collectible vinyl records in our "poly sleeves" and protect them from dust, dirt, finger oils, and other airborne pollutants. Our polyethylene bags hold size and thickness tolerances and have passed the Photo Activity Test certifying that they are safe for long term storage.
Using a poly sleeve on the outer record cover keeps dust off the records and also protects
the graphics of your lps album cover or 7" picture sleeves. The artwork and the graphics that
cover your vinyl records are often just as valuable, if not more valuable than the records themselves.
Our polyethylene outer record sleeves are archival and will not cause
chemical reactions or harm the jacket graphics or the records themselves in any way.
Sleeves used for storing audio records should not have any plasticizers, additives or PVC in them.
All the materials have been lab and time tested for their superior storage qualities.

Unless noted, every record is an original issue for the label and catalog number given. Here is a brief explanation of our grading system, followed by an overview of abbreviations you may encounter for cover and or label.
- SS Still Sealed - in factory-fresh condition
- M Mint - I don't use this grade.
- M- Mint Minus - a near perfect, probably unplayed record
- VG+ Very Good Plus close to like new with only superficial signs of use that don't affect play. Only well cared for records will grade out to VG+. Will satisfy all but the most demanding collector.
- VG Very Good - a used, reasonable copy. There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility of light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, but still quite nice.
- VG- Very Good Minus - significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noise.
- G+ Good Plus. In the record world, 'Good' is not good! From here on down (Fair, Poor), we're talking about beat-up records.
- co = drill hole in label or jacket (or saw mark/cut corner on cover)
- cw = cover wear
- dj = promotional issue 45
- djt = dj timing strip (12" x 4" white sticker on cover detailing titles and playing time)
- es = electric stereo (the record industry's attempt at giving stereo-like sound characteristics to mono recordings)
- lbl = label
- ps = picture sleeve (for 45's)
- pc = picture cover (hard cover usually 45rpm Eps)
- re = reissue
- sl = slight
- sm= small
- tobc = tag on back cover
- tol = tag on label
- wlp = white label promo
- woc = writing on cover
- wol = writing on label
- #ol = number on label
- oc = on cover
- obc = on back cover
- promo stamp = usually gold embossed notice on jacket indicating that item intended for promotional use
