Original MONO 1965 VINYL first pressing, the very first highly collectible TURTLES album, one of the happening early Sunset Strip club bands, the album filled with catchy Byrdsy sound, guitars, harmonies ...cool grooves in glorious MONAURAL ...the (rare) mono first pressing offers different song mixes from the stereo issue and also contains a good deep bold punch in the soound prduction, completely different from the stereo production.

The Turtles were one of the more enjoyable American pop groups of the 1960s, moving from folkrock inspired by the Byrds to a sparkling fusion of Zombiesinspired chamberpop and straightahead goodtime pop reminiscent of the Lovin' Spoonful, the whole infused with beautiful vocal harmonies courtesy of dual frontmen Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman. Early on they were known as a surf/garage band called The Crossfires, but when the happening Sunset Strip Hollywood scene started they changed their name to the Tyrtles (an unveiled homage to the Byrds, soon amended to the correct spelling) and recorded a Bob Dylan cover as their first single. The song's fusion of folk with glittering rock roll was also lifted from the Byrds, and "It Ain't Me Babe" reached the Top Ten in August 1965, just three months after "Mr. Tambourine Man" had hit number one. These Turtles LOOKED like your typical mop top up and coming garage band of the time, with a decidedly 'grubby' look that is shown on their first album. When record company executives HEARD how good this band was and the dollars potential in theior success, they 'cleaned up' the group, grooming them for commercial success, which they were. The Turtles recording some 5 strong albums worthy of attention, none better than their first three, here's the first of them, loaded with that infectious "It Ain't Me Babe" folkrock/garage happening Sunset Strip sound of 1965

The vinyl is highly glossy, visibly clean "EX" (excellent) no needle marks
