This album was a milestone for French Riviera electronic outfit M83 as it contained a song that would propel them into mega stardom - the synth pop 'Midnight City' was heard everywhere from World Cup football matches to Made In Chelsea and became one of the most definitive songs of 2011. The single 'Reunion' is similarly feel good and massive. But there's an artful approach to the album as a whole, it's not just crowd-pleasing bangers, but a record of tenderness, as the song 'Wait', with its Bon Iver-esque cinematic indie folk feel (bar a few yelps and a baroque pop outro), demonstrates. Crafting a double album is often a risk and considered a commercial suicide in some situations so to see it pay off and make them one of the 2010s most loved acts is heart warming.
