As with the signed Japanese edition I also currently have listed on eBay, this US / Warner Books first edition was purchased by me in 2002. And then just stored away for the last 14 years in the unopened bubble wrap and USPS cardboard box it was received in (see 2nd and 3rd photos). This was during my phase for collecting first edition photography books. That bubble wrap was opened by me for the first time yesterday (17 October 2016) to take eBay listing photos.
The sealed Madonna book with CD could easily be left aside untouched and unappreciated for yet another 14 years. So it's time for me to battle my hoarder instinct and arrange a clear-out.

The book had a range of influences, from punk rock to earlier fashion iconoclasts such as Guy Bourdin and his surrealism, and Helmut Newton, in its stylized, sado-masochistic look. Her publishers were extremely apprehensive about the release as well as its commercial potential. Sex was released alongside her fifth studio album Erotica, which was released a day earlier.
The book was an instant commercial success, managing to sell over 150,000 copies on its first day of release and topping the New York Times Best Seller list. It was received negatively by both critics and fans of the singer, who felt she had "gone too far." Through the years, however, critical reception towards Sex has become more positive, with academics deeming it a defining phase in Madonna's career. Sex is noted for its impact on society and culture as well as on Madonna herself, and is considered a bold, post-feminist work of art. The book has since become one of the most sought-after out-of-print books ever released and still remains the best and fastest-selling coffee table book of all time.
