Description
Original 1968 U.S. white-label promotional pressing of The Magnificent 7 on Dial Records, catalog number 45-4074.
A desirable Northern Soul / blue-eyed soul pairing featuring:
“Ooh, Baby Baby” – 2:59
b/w
“Never Will I (Make My Baby Cry)” – 2:35
This promotional copy has “PLUG SIDE” printed on the “Ooh, Baby Baby” label, identifying the side Dial was promoting for radio play. Of particular collector interest, this label also carries the Jobete BMI publishing credit and Moore–Robinson songwriting credit. The reverse carries the Twig BMI credit and Archie Himon songwriting credit.
Label matrices:
DL-14048-PL
DL-14049-PL
Both sides were produced by Cecil Jones. “Ooh, Baby Baby” is The Magnificent 7’s distinctive 1968 interpretation of the Smokey Robinson/Warren Moore composition. The reverse, “Never Will I,” has developed a following among Northern Soul and group-soul collectors.
The white promotional label, “PLUG SIDE” designation and fully printed publishing credits make this an uncommon and interesting label variation. Please examine the close-up photographs carefully to confirm the exact pressing and label details.
