Description
- Mahler symphonies 1-9 New York Philharmonic / London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leonard Bernstein. German CBS First Blue STEREO Label .
- Three volumes (box sets), Box 1: Symphonies 2, 7 and 8. Box 2: Symphonies 1, 3 and 4. Box 3: Symphonies 5, 6 and 9. Total of 15 records.
- Condition records NM.
- Condition box 1 and 2 NM, box 3 EX+ (slightest rubbing on artwork, box as new).
Leonard Bernstein recorded the Mahler symphonies twice. First in the sixties for CBS and later in the eighties for DGG. His first cycle was groundbreaking. Bernstein was the first to record a complete Mahler cycle. Before these recordings, Mahler's compositions where considered "problematic" or at best "controversial". Bernstein showed Mahler's greatness to the public. Although both sets are worth having, the first shows a freshness that is unsurpassed.
These are first German pressings and come from the collection of a school teacher who had 20,000 records and kept them as new. The adagio of symphony no.10 is not included because Bernstein recorded it for the first time in 1974 and the records date from before. All records come with brand new high quality innersleeves.
