MAJIC SHIP – Majic Ship. Guerssen GUESS 116. Spanish release. FACTORY SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Originally issued in 1970 on the tiny Bel-Ami label. This edition issued in 2013. Remastered and pressed on 180g vinyl; includes insert with detailed liner notes. MEMBERS:  Mike Carrigan, Tommy Nikosey, Cosmo (Gus) Riozzi, Rob Buckman, Phil Polimeni, and Tommy Nikosey. DESCRIPTION:   From Long Island, New York, Majic Ship started out as a solid pop band that early on waxed a few imaginative interpretations of covers, by the time they cut their first LP in 1970 they'd shifted gears and become a hard rock act with an undertow of pastoral psychedelia, and their self-titled album (the only full-length release from the original band) is an interesting artifact of its era containing catchy fuzz guitar riffs, tight harmony vocals, pretty ballads, modish ditties, and groovin’ instrumentals. Lead guitarist Phil Polimeni embraced a warm but fuzzy sound that suggests the influence of Jimi Hendrix and Pete Townsend without the aggressive histrionics of either artist, and vocalist Mike Garrigan was a more than capable blue-eyed soul singer with an admirable sense of restraint on moodier numbers such as We Gotta Live On and Wednesday Morning Dew. When the band turns up the volume on stuff like Where Are We Going and Sioux City Blues, the results are a bit less immediately impressive, since a number of bands were following a similar path at the time, but Majic Ship still has plenty to offer when they rock out. The performances here sound warm and organic, and sway with an easy but impassioned groove, while Garrigan, bassist Gus Riozzi, and rhythm guitarist Tommy Nikosey deliver impressive harmonies. While the 11-minute medley of Down By The River and For What It's Worth goes on a bit too long and doesn't bear comparison to the originals, Polimeni's guitar work holds its own and the band is able to bring its own personality to the tunes, no small thing (I suspect this was a highpoint of their live performances that translated much better on stage). It's probably a mistake to regard Majic Ship as a lost classic from the era when psychedelia was giving way to hard rock, but it's a solid and enjoyable record from a band who had genuine talent and some fine songs; it's not hard to imagine these guys could have become major stars if their luck had been a bit better back in the day.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

RETURN POLICY:

Any refund, exchange, or substitution/credit will be at the buyer’s choice, but not made until the original item is received back by me; in the condition as stated in the item description. 

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

US Customers:  Please wait at least two weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. All packages are shipped with confirmation/tracking, you will received an automatically generated shipping notice from Ebay e-mail with your tracking number. It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

INTERNATIONAL Customers:  Please wait at least 3 weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. If security is your concern please have your package registered (see above for fee). I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal system it is beyond my control. With First-Class Package International Service my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country. NOTE:  Based on recent buyer feedback, International packages have been moving much slower these days; it is not unusual for a package to take over three weeks for delivery, though normally packages should arrive in 7 to 15 business days.
