MALESCH ‘AGITATION FREE’ FRENCH PRESSING (I.R.I. LABEL) KRAUTROCK VINYL LP

 

Malesch is little like a Krautrock version of early Pink Floyd. Its strengths are in the realm of atmosphere and mood instead of group interplay.

 

The first three tracks (roughly, the first half of the album) are strong, lyrical and typical of their dreamy, trippy time. True, there are moments on both "You Play For Us Today" and "Sahara City" when I half expect the guitar riff from "Interstellar Overdrive" to surface, but this is mostly because Agitation Free nail the atmosphere so well, not because the actual music sounds ripped off. The production is so clean and has such depth of detail that Malesch can be viewed as offering an alternate version of Dark Side of the Moon, had Pink Floyd decided to move further into space from the previous album's "Echoes" rather than to become more song-oriented.  Standout track on the album is, "Ala Tul," combines the spacey atmosphere with a driving rhythm that bests any 4:50 of similarly-styled music from Pink Floyd.

 

Sleeve Condition: Ex+, no creases, writing or damage of any kind.

 

Record Condition: Near Mint condition without any signs of it having been played, no centring marks etc.  There is some crackle in places which is really just noisy vinyl as the stylus tracks the goove.  I’m being pretty picky and my own system is pretty top end so it is more noticeable.  This is not groove damage or stylus wear but due to the inferior quality of the vinyl used in manufacture.  My own copy of this suffers from exactly the same though I do not find it unduly intrusive, the music being unaffected by a little vinyl noise which is what this is.
