Description
Well, here we are: this is my last major weekly auction of 2006 so firstly I'd like to thank everybody who has bid on, looked at, won an item - it's been a great community to know .. and 99.9% of people are fabulous to deal with. I'll be back in the second week of January with an absolutely awesome selection of psych and rock stuff that I'm curently preparing so don't miss that. In the meantime I thought I'd offer up some nice stuff for Christmas this week ... here's a copy of perhaps the most under-rated Australian acid folk psych record of all time - Mandu's magnificent 1974 concept album To The Shores Of His Heaven - the story of an extraterrestrial visitor, who saddened by the state of the earth, opens his heart to the benign indifference of the universe. The songs are moody, beautifully stated with stunning melodies, enhanced by strings and soaring arrangements and some of Australia's finest players of the time including Phil Manning of Chain, Barry Sullivan, Gary Young and Peter Sullivan. It reminds me alittle of the work of fellow Australian Spectrum and Company Caine but more elegant and with a stronger singer/songwriter bent - and Mandu has a great voice. He ended up joining Lobby Llloyd's mid-1970s band Southern Electric and appears on the excellent Obsecration album. The cover is mint except for a 5cm break in the bottom of the rear panel of the gatefold sleeve - obviously caused by the vinyl pushing through so lets say NM. The vinyl appears virtually unplayed so NM as well. Just a fantastic copy of a fantastic record.
