Manfred Mann Chapter Three : Volume Two 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st Press Vertigo 1970
This first pressing on the Vertigo label plays to a standard you rarely find today.  It basically plays 'as new' with no intrusion on the audio.  The clarity and depth of the audio is comparable to an un-played vinyl that's how good it is.  I do not exaggerate my listings and I can safely say I have never heard this classic album play with such amazing sonic quality.  There is just one mega light tick on S2 that you could easily miss because it is so quiet!  The vinyl is also visually stunning and it is safe to assume that it has hardly every been played, perhaps only the once, based on the audio and that there is no spindle wear on the labels.  This is a FINAL UPGRADE album in every regard.
The gatefold is great condition with only the slightest of wear and the original swirl inner is practically 'as new' also.
As this is a first pressing it has the 1Y1/2Y1 matrix and on the cover it says ...Chapter Three Volume Two and on the label Chapter III Volume 2.  On the label both Hugg/Mann are credited - the correct credits are shown inside the gatefold.

Visual description
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no scratches.  Under a strong light I can only find a small number of very faint hairlines and a couple of very small faint blemishes on S2 that of course have no affect on the stunning audio.  The iconic Vertigo labels are as good as new with no marking and no spindle wear.  One stunning vinyl!
Play grading
'Lady Ace' plays with exceptional audio from the first note to the last.  There is no interference, just a couple of very light dust ticks.  The vocals are strong and precise and the mid brass instrumental is stunning which is how you would want it with a band that relies so much on its instrumentation.  A Mint start to the album.
The quieter 'I Ain't Laughing' then plays with great clarity and depth and again there is no intrusion on the audio.  I was expecting this vinyl to play well based on its visual appearance and so far it is certainly delivering!  No ticks, clicks, pops or static this is Mint from start to finish including the fade out.
The intro on 'Poor Sad Sue' plays to perfection and it continues to play with outstanding quality.  Again there is not one single negative - the opening vocal section is faultless and Hugg's piano piece followed by the almost improv brass instrumental is just amazing!  The clarity and power of the audio is 'as new' and even when the volume is a lot quieter towards the end of this section there is still no 'background' not even a dust tick.  The remainder is of the same high end standard and again I am confident in grading this as Mint such is the quality.
'Jump Before You Think' is superb!  No 'background' at all and it's the depth of the audio that really stands out here and especially on the opening section.  The strong bass of course adds so much to this.  Every section plays with sublime quality and Mint is fully deserved.
'It's Good To Be Alive' ends the side with stunning precision.  Despite being the final track there is no decrease in quality and again there is just no interference to be heard.  Mint
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 15 minute opus 'Happy Being Me' could not play any better, the sonic quality is out of this world!  Honestly I just don't have the words!  The clarity, power and definition of the audio can only be described 'as new', comparable to a vinyl that has never been played and of course it is 52 years old right now.  Every passage plays with STUNNING quality and there is not so much as a dust tick let alone anything more.  This has to be played loud and the playback does not suffer for it as there is no distortion at all.  Each note is so sharp and precise, it is just an unbelievable listen!  Even the piano end section has no 'background'.  A genuine progressive feel to this track and I cannot overstate just how well it plays!  The depth of the audio is breath-taking!  In case you were wondering this is MINT on every single level.   'Virginia' ends this superb album with impeccable quality once more.  I picked up just one very light tick about two minutes in but that is literally the only 'background' across the entire album.  And 'background' is exactly what it is as it is so quiet and totally non-intrusive.  It plays with great power and depth throughout and the quiet piano end section plays beautifully with no intrusion.  I will grade this as Mint- although I am sure many would say Mint.  There is very little difference of course!
In summary this first Vertigo pressing plays to the highest standard possible i.e. 'as new'.  I know that is a bold statement to make but having played every second of every track I am confident in grading it as such.  Every facet of the audio - the clarity, depth, power, resonance and warmth - just could not be any more impressive.  This is a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic i.e. no need to find another as you will not improve on this audio!  The vinyl, cover and inner have all been preserved so well and this clearly add to any high end Mint collection.
The Gatefold & Vertigo Swirl Inner
The cover is in lovely condition with only very minimal shelf wear.  The edges have no marking / rubbing and the wide spine is in superb shape with no marks etc and the corners are nigh on perfect.  The right hand corners are also extremely clean with barely any wear and the opening edge has no handling wear either.  In fact the only 'wear' is that the cover is not quite flat as there is a minor compression in the top left corner and a very slight bend and a faint crease in the lower right corner.  These are only minor things and do not impact on the overall look.  Both the front and back are cover are unmarked and the inside of the gatefold is immaculate.  A superb example.
The original poly-lined swirl inner is in fantastic condition - so clean it has clearly hardly ever been outside of the cover!  There are no marks, barely any fading around the edges and very little creasing.  No side splits or tears either.  It has the date code 1070 printed in one corner.
