Marillion : Seasons End A1/B1

For this auction I am selling a number of Fish/Marillion records and the vast majority of them have been incredibly well preserved.  I am moving house soon and I want to 'shift' a lot of my stock quickly so unfortunately do not have the time to describe each track in detail as I generally do.  Rest assured I will still play every track in full so as to provide a 'complete' grading.  I will adhere to my usual standards :-)

This first pressing plays with STUNNING quality and is rarely found as good as this today.  So often this album plays with a lot of static/crackle but not here!  It is the cleanest I have ever heard and there are no clicks or pops and barely any static.  The playback is superb!  The vinyl is visually so impressive and it has clearly hardly ever been played.

The gatefold is in fantastic condition, almost 'as new', and the inner sleeve is in excellent condition.

Visual grading

The vinyl is visually stunning and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  I can only find a very small number of barely visible sleeve removal hairlines and only the S2 label has a couple of minor marks.  There is also just one tiny spindle trace on each label.

Play Grading

The intro on 'The King Of Sunset Town' is superb!  It so often plays with a fair amount of static/crackle but there are only 3/4 ticks here and the bare minimum of very light static.  It gets even better as it builds!  From then on you cannot fault it really, a couple of minor ticks prior to the first vocal that's about it.  The audio is outstanding!  The classic 'Easter' plays beautifully with no intrusion and 'The Uninvited Guest' keeps up the standard and plays with great power and depth and again no interference.  'Seasons End' has a clarity of sound that is stunning, a rarity on a first pressing with so many quiet sections.  This version is so 'clean' with no interference and the classic end section is breathtaking!  This has to be the finest S1 I have ever heard.

S2 begins with a superb version of 'Holloway Girl' with only a minimal amount of barely audible static on the intro.  The rest is sheer audio perfection!  The quiet intro on 'Berlin' is close to perfect with only a small number of dust ticks and it then plays with great clarity and power with no sign of any interference, just a handful of mega quiet dust ticks again in one of the quieter sections.  'Hooks In You' rocks outs loud and true with no interference and 'The Space' ends the album with 'high end' audio.  The intro has only a couple of dust ticks and it then plays 'as new' with no intrusion.  A superb version of this classic track.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The cover is near perfect with no obvious wear.  The edges and wide spine are in fantastic condition and the corners are also super clean with barely any wear.  The opening edge is in superb shape with only one tiny 'crimp' and the front cover is unmarked apart from one tiny indent that you will struggle to find!  The back cover is just as clean with only a couple of barely visible indents and short scratch lines.  So minor 99% of sellers would not even mention this!  The inside is so close to perfect with only a handful of tiny faint spots.  The original die-cut inner (dated 6/89) has only a few very faint spots, no side splits and barely any creasing.

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
