MARK KNOPFLER PRIVATEERING 180 GRAM 2LP ORIGINAL RELEASE

180 Gram Double Vinyl! 8th Studio Solo Album from Dire Straits' Frontman!
One of the Greatest Guitarists in the World! Lyrically Sound and Musically Flawless!

Mark Knopfler's eighth solo studio album shows he's still going strong 35 years after his start with Dire Straits.

"A privateer is what I am, really," says Mark Knopfler.

The title track of the legendary singer-songwriter and guitarist's eighth solo album evokes a swashbuckling era of seafaring plunder, merchant raiders and licensed pirates. But Mark finds an analogy with the modern rock and roll life."I really get a buzz out of having this little group of people that sallies forth across the world. I enjoy being in command of it, the band, the crew, traveling through this ever changing landscape and playing in all these different places. You get where you get without any kind of assistance, really, making your own way in the world. There are no government grants to play this music. You're a privateer. And that's the way I like it."

Privateering is Mark Knopfler's first double album in a 35-year recording career. "The older I get, the more I want to write," he says. "Whether that is just panic at time running out, I'm not sure. I'm enjoying the process more than ever, writing, recording and playing live, I enjoy all of it. I'm almost tripping over songs."

These 20 tracks of consummately crafted folk, blues, country and rock originals reflect the creative exuberance of an artist whose exceptional abilities were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Ivor Novellos. He has performed live in front of countless millions. He has collaborated with artists of the stature of Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Emmylou Harris and Van Morrison. He has composed distinctive soundtracks for such classic films as Local Hero, The Princess Bride, Last Exit To Brooklyn and Wag The Dog. He has been regularly acclaimed as one of the greatest guitarists in the world. But what he sees himself as, first and foremost, is a songwriter. And this may be his finest-ever collection.

"Thirty-five years since Dire Straits first came together, guitar legend Knopfler is still going strong with this... solo studio album and it's a double. His voice is sounding more like Leonard Cohen than ever and while the melancholy flavor we expect of this all-time great is still very much in evidence, there are forays out into classic blues and bluesy rock, both of which suit him down to the ground.

"Lyrically sound and musically flawless, there’s nothing here that won’t delight Knopfler fans and it’s abundantly clear there’s still plenty of mileage in the 63-year-old yet." - Simon Gage, express.co.uk, August 31, 2012

"Relieved to shrug off the Dire Straits brand in 1995, Knopfler has relaxed into an admirable solo career of low-key country blues. His seventh solo outing is a backwoods ramble through two discs of the rootsy Anglo-American sounds in which Knopfler is now (mostly) so comfortable. There’s old-timers’ country, roadhouse blues, a Tom Waitsian piano ballad and yearning Celtic pipe.

"One of Knopfler’s skills is to write melodramatic folk lyrics then deliver them like he’s leaning against a petrol pump. Yon Two Crows is a grim shepherd’s tale, while Redbud Tree finds him “pledged” to a tree “as to my only one”. Some of the noisier blues are cheesy, but, in the main, this is a warm, authentic and durable record: the musical equivalent of a well-worn plaid shirt." - Helen Brown, telegraph.co.uk, September 5, 2012

"Redbud Tree," a highlight of Mark Knopfler's eighth solo album, could've been written 100 years ago. But given our ecocrisis, this tree-hugging folk gem, embossed with a shimmering fingerpicked Strat, feels cannily modern. Knopfler's sueded voice has changed little since his 1980s heyday, and his elegant electric-guitar work sounds better than ever. The 20 songs, most top-shelf, are a textbook of folk styles, from Irish ballads ("Kingdom of Gold") and country-flavored weepers ("Seattle") to slide-driven blues ("Don't Forget Your Hat") and Tin Pan Alley nostalgia ("Radio City Serenade"). On the title track, he shows off his acoustic playing, a folk-rock vet returning to the source." - Rolling Stone

"For a fan of folk and blues, we can’t recommend Mark Knopfler’s latest enough. Whilst the days of Dire Straits are behind this inspiring songwriter, no matter what internet rumours say, there’s a lot left in this legitimate legend." - bringthenoiseuk

"Privateering is Mark Knopfler’s eighth studio album and his first double album. Packing in twenty songs, it’s a record that has soul, is relaxed and shows off an impressive collection of great musicians including Kim Wilson on harp, mandolin player Tim O’Brien, and vocalist Ruth Moody along with his regular band. Mark is an absolute master in what he does and it’s such a rare beauty that he continues to have the passion to create the types of songs on Privateering with the highlights ‘Don’t Forget Your Hat’ ‘Miss You Blues’ and ‘Seattle’." - beatreview.

Mark Knopfler Tracker 180 GRAM 2LP LIMITED EDITION ORIGINAL RELEASE

180g Vinyl Double LP!
Mastered By Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering!

Tracker is Mark Knopfler's ninth solo album and features 11 new Knopfler songs inspired by a wide range of subjects including Beryl Bainbridge and Basil Bunting. Produced by Knopfler and Guy Fletcher and recorded at British Grove Studios in London, Tracker was released on March 17, 2015 in North America.

"The album title 'Tracker' arrived out of me trying to find my way over the decades. Out of me tracking time - looking at people, places and things from my past, and out of the process of tracking as in recording tracks in the studio," said Mark Knopfler about the album.

"Beryl" is the first single from the album. The song is dedicated to Beryl Bainbridge who was one of Britain's leading novelists.

"Knopfler isn't pining for the past but he is looking back, sometimes wistfully, sometimes with a resigned smile, and he appropriately draws upon sounds that he's long loved...this skillful interweaving of Knopfler's personal past helps give Tracker a nicely gentle resonance." -Stephen Thomas Erlewine, allmusic

DIRE STRAITS BROTHERS IN ARMS 180 GRAM 2LP

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 352/500!

Featured in Michael Fremer's Heavy Rotation in the December 2006 Issue of Stereophile!

Half-Speed Mastered by Stan Ricker!

Dire Straits' biggest-selling album-in fact, one of the biggest-selling albums world-wide of all time-Brothers In Arms helped musically define a decade. This superb album spent the grand total of 203 weeks in the UK charts and a respectable 55 weeks in the US charts (where it sold 7 million copies alone). "Brothers In Arms" was pretty much the success story of the 80's and was primarily fuelled by a slate of huge hit singles like the classic "Money For Nothing" (No.1 US, No.4 UK '85), "Walk Of Life" (No.2 UK '86, No.7 US '85) and "So Far Away" (No.19 US '86, No.20 UK '85).

"Money For Nothing," the song that helped immortalize the phrase “I want my MTV,” hit #1 and won the Grammy® for Best Rock Performance. Today, Brothers In Arms remains a rock essential - and now is offered as a completely uncompressed two-disc vinyl album for the ultimate in fidelity!

"I received the 180 G 2 album set of Brothers in Arms and wanted to tell you that your assessment was spot on. The instruments are sharper and the whole soundstage is much more full than the studio pressing. It also seems as if there is more music. I do not remember the extended lead in for the first song on side two ("Walk Of Life") as well as the trailing notes for the last song on side 3 ("Ride Across The River"). I'm not a big fan of bloated bass, and even though the bass is considerably more full than the studio pressing, it was also more musical. Amazing music. I will continue to search for this type of production quality." - Richard H., actual Elusive Disc customer

1/2 Speed Mastered by Stan Ricker on High Performance 180 Gram Vinyl... Because Sound Matters! Plating and Pressing at R.T.I.

"Mark Knopfler started writing "Money for Nothing" when he overheard a New York appliance salesman's anti-rock-star, anti-MTV rant. The song, of course, became a huge MTV hit, and this album shows off Knopfler's incisive songwriting and lush guitar riffs on "Walk of Life" and "So Far Away." -

DIRE STRAITS LOVE OVER GOLD 180 GRAM LP

TAS Rated 4/5 Music, 4/5 Sonics in the October 2010 Issue of The Absolute Sound!

Mastered by Bernie Grundman from the Original Analogue Tapes!
Pressed at Pallas in Germany on 180 Gram Audiophile Quality Vinyl!

The Best Version of this Audiophile Classic you will ever hear! Love Over Gold is a MUST own LP!!!

WEA has done it again... 180 Gram Audiophile Quality Vinyl, Plated and Pressed at Pallas-Germany, Mastered by Bernie Grundman from the Original Analogue Tapes, Dire Straits Love Over Gold Has NEVER sounded better! You must own this, THE superior pressing of Dire Straits' Classic Album!

Despite the fact that Love Over Gold contains only five songs, the powerful effect of these selections makes this Dire Straits' more underrated record. Building on the ambitious arrangements and more sophisticated story-songs that made up the prior Making Movies, Mark Knopfler audaciously composed "Telegraph Road," a near-15-minute cut that traces society's technological evolution. Although this kind of subject matter might sound ostensibly dry, Knopfler's crisp playing and warm raspy voice, combined with Alan Clark's gorgeous keyboard runs, makes for a sweeping experience.

Dire Straits added a new rhythm guitarist expanding its sounds and ambitions on the sprawling Love Over Gold. In a sense, the album is their prog rock effort, containing only five songs, including the 14-minute opener "Telegraph Road." Mark Knopfler's skilled, tasteful guitar sustains throughout atmospheric, instrumental passages.

"Dire Straits emerged during the post-punk era of the late '70s, and while their sound was minimalistic and stripped down, they owed little to punk. If anything, the band was a direct outgrowth of the roots revivalism of pub rock. Led by guitarist/vocalist Mark Knopfler, the group built their sound upon the laid-back blues-rock of J.J. Cale, but they also had jazz and country inflections, occasionally dipping into the epic song structures of progressive rock." - All Music Guide

"...Warner's outstanding new reissue mastered by Bernie Grundman and plated and pressed at Pallas in Germany ...the sound is a knockout." - Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound, October 2010, Issue 206

Mark Knopfler's spare, tasteful guitar lines and distinctive vocals mark their self-titled debut album of bluesy tunes that even on first listen, sound as if you've just wandered into a local pub to hear a great rock band over a beer. Thanks to the Top Ten hit "Sultans of Swing," Dire Straits was a major success in both Britain and America, with the single and album climbing into the Top Ten on both sides of the Atlantic.

Dire Straits On Every Street 180 gram LIMITED EDITION DOUBLE LP SET

Featuring the full length versions of all tracks on Audiophile 180g Double Vinyl for the First Time!

Mastered from the Original Masters by Bernie Grundman and Bob Ludwig! Lacquers Cut by Chris Bellman and Bernie Grundman!

On Every Street is the sixth and final studio album by British rock band Dire Straits, released on September 10, 1991 by Vertigo Records internationally, and by Warner Bros. Records in the United States. The follow-up to the band's massively successful album Brothers in Arms, On Every Street reached the top of the UK albums chart and was also certified platinum by the RIAA. This album features Vince Gill as a guest artist and produced several singles: "Calling Elvis," "Heavy Fuel," "On Every Street," and "The Bug."

Emerging on the scene in 1977, Dire Straits became one of the most commercially successful bands of its time. Led with virtuoso skill by vocalist/guitarist, Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits was behind such hits as "Sultans of Swing," "Brothers In Arms," "Romeo and Juliet," and "So Far Away."

Propelled by Mark Knopfler's literate songs, gruff vocals, and spidery guitar work, Dire Straits had overcome initial skepticism for their resistance to '70s new wave accents in favor of their rootsy traditionalism. The band's sound drew from a variety of musical influences, including jazz, folk, and blues. As their career progressed, Dire Straits became more refined and the band became one of the leaders of a group of mature, veteran musicians that designed their music to appeal to aging baby boomers.

"As a whole, On Every Street reconfirms that Knopfler is an impeccable guitarist, a musician of exquisite taste..." -Rolling Stone

"On Every Street is an amazing album...Instead of Sting singing "I Want My MTV," fans got Hillbillies pedal steel player Paul Franklin adding to the high-lonesome sound of the quite infectious title track and the epic "Planet of New Orleans," along with meditations on the mistreatment of striking miners in the cinematic "Iron Fist," and some of Knopfler's most haunting guitar work throughout. The result can be seen as a dignified--and, at times, even inspiring--farewell album." -Bill Forman, Amazon
