Marti Barris, Ahbe Casabe b/w Can't You Read Between The Lines, Keen 4018, composed by Eden Ahbez. Year of release is 1958. This is a listing for one of the most spectacular 50's Pop 45's, and it is obscure. As a songwriter, he is best known for his penning Nat King Cole's eerie 1950 hit, Nature Boy. As a master of Exotica, he created the consummate Exotica LP himself on the Del-Fi label, a piece that often fetches hundreds of dollars. He was very influential in the Brian Wilson, Beach Boys masterpiece, Pet Sounds. Although Arab sounding, Eden Ahbez was not Middle Eastern at all. He was born Alexander Aberle and was adopted by a Kansas family who raised him under the name George McGrew. A humble artist, he never used capital letters when writing his first and last names! Marti (Maureen) Barris, although not quite so strange has her own unusual mystique. She recorded Scottish Fling on the Keen label who many consider to be one of the most phenomenal 50's female 45 Pop recording artists, with Scottish Fling being her signature release. A sound byte of that song is provided for those of you who do not know this great artist. I myself consider it to be the most sensational female Pop 45 of the 1950's! I am proud to own a stone cold mint white label promo copy of it from which the sound byte has been created (Scottish Fling is NOT being offered with this listing)! Her sound has a bit of a Latin flair to it, a sound that might appeal to Popcorn collectors. Curiously, she did not record any LP's that I have been able to find out anything about. If anyone knows of any, kindly email me. The labels of this record being offered each have a catalogue number rubber stamped on them. The former owner, (the original one) had a propensity for creating a vinyl museum. Although he added his own individual touch to the 10,000, or so, records that he had, he rarely, if ever, played them, and when he did, it was usually once. He really liked this one. So, I presume that it may have been played a few times. Aside from the rubber stamped numbers, both labels grade in near mint condition. Don't let this one pass you by!
