A somewhat cathartic masterpiece here and one of John Martyn's most powerful and emotionally revealing works where heartbreak, honesty and creativity collide. Originally released in 1980, the record captures the turmoil surrounding the breakdown of the British singer-songwriter and guitarist's marriage as he transforms personal pain into a collection of songs that feels intimate yet somehow universal to us all. Moving beyond his folk roots, Martyn blends blues, jazz, soul and reggae influences with a more electric, atmospheric sound, supported by a stellar band featuring John Giblin and Phil Collins. From the wounded beauty of 'Hurt In Your Heart' to the bittersweet warmth of 'Our Love' and the reggae throb of 'Johnny Too Bad ', every track carries emotional weight.
