MARVIN GAYE - TROUBLE MAN - RARE MOTOWN 7" UK DEMO:
This is your chance to bid on this extremely rare seven inch vinyl single from the soul legend MARVIN GAYE. The record was released following the highly successful "WHAT'S GOING ON".After the release of What's Going On, Motown renegotiated a contract with Gaye that allowed him creative control. The deal was worth $1 million, making Gaye the highest-earning black artist. He moved from Detroit to Los Angeles in 1972 after being offered a chance to write the score to a blaxploitation film. Writing, arranging and producing the movie, TROUBLE MAN, Gaye issued the soundtrack and title song in 1972. The soundtrack and single became hits with the single peaking in the top ten in early 1973. The item you are bidding on here is the very rare UK DEMONSTRATION DISC of the title track from the film. The standard issue of this record is quite collectable but the UK DEMONSTRATION copies of TAMLA MOTOWN singles are extremely scarce. The record features the following tracks both composed & produced by MARVIN GAYE: TROUBLE MAN c/w DON'T MESS WITH MR "T" The Tamla Motown UK demonstration discs - in line with other EMI records - featured a green label. The A Side is denoted by a large white "A" and has the words "DEMONSTRATION RECORD NOT FOR SALE" printed on the label. The labels show the release date of the record (30.3.73) as well as the usual song & writing / publishing credits. The B side has an all green label design again with the phrase "DEMONSTRATION RECORD NOT FOR SALE" printed on the label. Matrix numbers: YTMG 846 A - 1 & YTMG B-1. Stamper code: G on both sides along with KT tax stamp. CONDITION OF THE ITEM: 1(a). VINYL - VISUALLY: The vinyl still has a nice gloss. There are some very minor surface marks. (b). PLAY: As the vinyl is now 37 years old, there are occasional pops & clicks noticeable at the start of the track, but these do not detract from ones listening pleasure. Overall excellent. 2. LABELS: A very nice set with just a small collection of light spindle marks to around the centre hole. The B Side label has a slight mark under the "T" (2:42) writing where it would appear a small sticky label was once placed (see photos). 3. SLEEVE: The record is housed in an original TAMLA MOTOWN company sleeve which is in very good condition. Every image in this listing has been taken by ourselves and they all show the actual item for sale. THIS IS A TRULY FANTASTIC ITEM & WOULD MAKE A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY SERIOUS MOTOWN COLLECTION. Catalogue number TMG 846.
